Default oil out of exhaust?

hi,just started my new engine for the first time and there is quite a bit of oil coming out the back of the turbo?just wondering what the possible causes are and if anyone has experienced this?as far as i know it could be oil passing the rings, oil coming through the turbo seals or coming in past the valve stem seals.when the engine isn't running the turbo shaft is turned easily but when it is running it becomes slightly stiff?if that gives any clues?its a brand new turbo and block and pistons.

any help appreciated!thanks guys and gals

there is a bit coming out lol havent measured it tbh!im thinking its more likely to be the turbo cause its not smoking all the time like it would be if it was being burnt in the cylinders.it smoked a tiny bit on initial startup and then cleared instantly.it then started smoking a little after being run for about 30 seconds.wanna take the plugs out n have a look if they are covered but havent got any tools at home!id have thought if it was chucking that much oil into the bores then it wouldnt start?

i doubt a brand new turbo would be fooked,im not totally clued up on these things but couldnt the lack of back pressue from not having the exhaust on be somethin to do with it?

turbo isn't brand brand new its a recon unit.but has never been run untill now.think the backpressure thing would only cause problems if had been like it for ages.

Well, if you've got no exhaust system and therefore no back pressure, the bearing in the turbo wont work porperly! The turbos bearing/oil seal relys on the exhaust systems back pressure

so it could be doing this because my exhaust isnt on then?i thought it would be ok to run it with now exhaust on it for a minute or so?

My understanding it that the bearing seal simply wont work without back pressure.

You've got to fit the exhaust on at some stage, so why not fit in on now and see if after a few mins of running there is oil/oily smoke coming out of the tail pipe?

the turbine seal is essentially like a piston ring with a small but finite gap in it - there is oil pressure one side of it in the shaft bearing, and exhaust backpressure the other side, which helps to keep the oil from going through the small ring gap. If there is no backpressure there is nothing to stop the oil going through the gap and out the back into the exhaust housing
