Default Bailey oil filter **UPDATE SORTED!!**

Hi,

Could fitting a Baileys oil filter make my car run "lumpy"?

Ive just fitted one and it now runs like its firing on 3 cylinders.

I was wondering if maybe a reduced oil flow to the turbo might cause this?

I dont think it would but it was running fine before i fitted it!!

Cheers,

Mark

check all your engine sensors, you may have accidentally detached one while doing the oil filter!

Ive had another thought.........

I also fitted a new centre console tonight, when i removed it i may have accidentally flicked a high/low boost switch that was fitted to my car previously.

I never use it and have tried flicking it on and off with the car running but it makes no difference.

Maybe because ive now flooded the engine and need to drive it to clear it.

Its very similiar to what would happen if a choke got stuck on?

Could that be what it is and its now over fuelling cos the smell of petrol is VERY strong!!

Cheers for your help guys,

Mark

That boost switch will make no difference either...sounds like its just flooded...whip the plugs out and see and they clean em up

Check the plug on the blue water temp sensor on the rear right hand side of the head as the oil feed pipe runs round that way, if you've dislodged that it will cause similar symptons

That's your problem . The plugs are being fouled by the fact that they constantly being subjected to the cold start program without ever being warmed up properly. Do NOT do this .

To remedy, pull spark plug leads off plugs, then put them back again so ther are just RESTING on the plugs without being fully seated back down. Start the car and then drive it for a few miles until the car has fully warmed up (may take 6-7 miles to clear out all the unburned fuel etc). Once the car is running better, push plug leads fully home and then NEVER start and run for short periods again .

Yes Mike, Sorry Mike lol

I dont start it that often to be honest, i usually just leave my battery charger on it.

Its never done this before and im not doing anything different with it than i have done before?

It just seems to coincidental that ive been doing work on it and now it runs like a sack of sh*t!!

Thanks for all the advice Mike.

It would only take 3-5 cold starts (without running the car up to temp) to do this .

Consider your knuckles rapped .

Not really, unless you can magic 30deg ambients . Then you could remove the plugs and let the warmth evaporate the excess fuel away that is sitting on the top of the pistons .

Just no more cold starting until you are able to drive the car.

You could start it and leave it running for a good few cycles of the fans (using the method I suggested with the plug leads). May require the car running for 30 minutes or so. Once cleared DON'T do it again .

This was really bothering me so i thought i would try one more thing.

I switched it on this morning and thought i would try one last thing!!

what i did was whilst the engine was running i pulled off the plug leads one by one to see if it made a difference!!

it did to all but plug lead number 2!!

When i took off lead 2 there was no dip in the engine revs or anything soooooooo put a new spark plug in and shes running sweet as a nut!!

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to all who offered there help and advice on this thread as its much appreciated.

And Mike................No more cold starts as if i keep doing this im going to cause myself problems like you said!!
