Vulcan Valves
Point I make is,- if a certain company sells something which even Ford thought was wrong in 1985. Isn't it reasonable to suppose that other things
that are supplied are substandard as well?

I can only comment on my recent experience Mark. I phoned another well known tuning emporium in the west of town to ask what pistons and rods
were fitted in an engine (they used to make) which I'd picked up very cheap as (surprise surprise)
it had died in a fairly dramatic way. These 'gentlemen' steered me in the direction of your man who told me (amongst other things)..'200 bhp is more
than enough in a front wheel drive car'! 'We have built 1000 of those and only
about 50 split their blocks'..(that'll be 5% of his system 2's suffered just
1 type of malfunction) 'cast pistons are fine at low boost'. The Lord alone knows why anyone would pay 2k for an engine that was only fit to run the 6 psi that the Mercedes Kompressor does/the cast pistons he fits.
The guy you could probably do with meeting/seeing is Dave baker
have a look at his site www.pumaracing.co.uk you'll see he has his own made
and why, also gives a few clues as to what to look out for when choosing
an engine builder/tuner. Good Luck ma man.

Yup unfortunatly...wiped out my freshly built CVH.....valve head seperated from the steam....the rest of that engine? Well as they say is history.
Incidently this happened whilst running the engine in, with a rev limit programed at 4k rpm.
Typical though! Its only after you encounter shoddy production & the dammage that defective valves cause that you then find others who have encounteres the same problem.
The common denominator being Vulcan Valves

I actually think that Vulcan's work is suitable for the lesser stressed N/A derivatives.
When it comes to Turbo stuff, selecting the components from a large box of parts 'accumulated over the years' doesn't quite cut it IMO. Tony's rods from his failed engine were Blue at their narrowest point. We still don't really know why, nor have really bothered to find out.
As for Vulcan's Valves, I think they are probably produced by someone that knows what he is doing, but to fall within a very tight guide price, hence inferior materials used.
I would charge as much in machining alone as Vulcan do for one of their Maxiflow heads complete. They must be cutting costs somewhere.
