Default Best oil for S1 (again)

After reading a thread for which oil is best for a chipped RST, i was lead to believe 10w 50 was the way to go. Went to my FORD dealership today for an oil filter and asked if they had any 10w 50 in stock and he said why would you want to put that in, it's too thick. He recommended 10w 30 or 10w 40 ! What the fcuk should i put in the old girl then. She is running approx 180 bhp. Engine covered approx 10k on rebuild. cheeRS peeps

Ask Oilman on here! I brought a load from him at a really good price. He gives discount to Passionford & RSOC members and you get even more of a discount is you do a bulk order. He recommended I use Silkolene Pro S 10W 50 and it really is spot on. My engine loves the stuff

I have been using Duckhams Hypergrade 10-40 semi synthetic in my S1 & S2 for a good few years now, S1 standrd, S2 modified with NOS. Keeps the lifters nice and quite.

I personally run 10w40 Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic, mainly cos my mate works for Renault and gets it for me free, but i know theres a lot of controversy about fully and semi synthetic oils.

i was told fully synthetic is no good unless its benn run on that since new, and magnatec is no good for theses engines incase it pulls the carbon out of the liners causing a loss incompression.

You can't run a new engine on Fully synthetic as it needs to run in, once run in the oil needs to be changed for better oil. That was the case with older engines, not sure about the ones that are now bench run in.

10w 50 and 10w 40 are the same thickness the last number just ie 50 represents how much heat it can take

you 100% want to be using fully synthetic as the heat from the turbo will cook other oils into water but dont mix fully synthetic with non fully synthetic not even semi synthetic oils

If the car is not modded or used on track Silkolene Pro S 5w-40, if it is modded or used on track then Silkolene Pro S 10w-50

Cheers
Simon
