technically not,
if the turbo stalled it would break, cos the inlet and exhaust side would spin at different speeds but 1 shaft cant do that. the exhaust gas still pushes it round the right way, the noise is the compressed inlet air being forced out through the compressor blades and it sounds cut-up.
its like wistleing trough a fan, the fan doesnt stall, does it?

Turbos do break, when not running dvs. and all the little pieces go through the intercooler and kill engines.

if it hasnt happened.............it will ,maybe not today maybe not tomorow, but soon!

i dont see how whistling through a fan can be anything like 30psi going the wrong way through a small turbine?

 

Never had a turbo go wrong through not running a dumpvalve and have never run one They never came out the factory with dumpvalves did they well most of them never

Failiure may be an extreme circumstance but i have known it happen to a mate stage 3 cossie. snapped the turbine shaft and shattered the turbine, engine dead

 

the reason some didnt have them from factory is because standard boost isnt enough to cause damage, but up the boost as most people do and you need to take into consideration the extra stress this could put on the turbine, its like using a standard head gasket at stage 3 you would expect it to fail because of the extra boost and stress, so you would fit a grp a gasket to make it reliable.

 

i thought all turbo cars had some type of dump valve just depends wether they are re-circulating or dump to atmosphere, dumping to atmoshere gives you noise

 

most cars do come with dump valves, and all the turbo cars ive had the 1st thing i do is remove them. ive never had a turbo fail, i agree it wont make them last any longer but the noise is oh so good. lol

 

stu go to this site "aaserud-racing.com" if u havnt already. they' ve got a few cosworths and you can hear flutter. the best one is of a black rs 500 with yellow stickers on driving through forest roads, sounds to good.think its from norway or germany, cant tell. let me know what u thought.

speaking shite there mate,if the turbo is strong enough its fine,mine did NOT break EVER in over 20,000 miles of 34 psi boost (with 45psi occasionally being used! ) and i wouldnt buy a grp a gasket cos theyre shite,get a mhg!
was a .63 t34 by the way on my saff
and the dv was actually known as a noise suppressor,so that the execs who bought it couldnt hear the chatter,so wouldnt think theyd broken it

I got a new turbo going on this week or the next so might try it for this week.

Nope. Complete codswallop.
It is not as loud or prominent as with EFI, but you can most definately get it with mfi.
