Default Does anyone here give a lift to people 'thumbing a ride??'

....have given someone a lift with trade plates before (only because i thought wearing them round his neck was quite funny!! )

BUT

would you give a lift to someone just 'thumbing a lift' these days???? i personally wouldn't as you have no idea what 'psycho's' are out there these days!!!

went past a few the other day on the slip road to the M1 and thought how succesful it was these days!!!!

(if it happens to be VERY succesful....i will sell the motors and thumb my way to work each day!! )

keith, ive allways thought about this myself

Thers a chap near us who for as long as i can remember has allways thumbed lifts between Matlock and Derby along the A6.

He's a bit trampy looking so ive never bothered stopping but i must admitt the thought had crossed my mind at one point

So these guys hitching a lift with the trade plates. Is their job to deliver cars & then have to get back under their own steam?

Always wondered as I pass them LOL

basically, they get a mileage allowance, so the chepaer that they can travel the more money they make. i know a pensioner that does it, but he uses his pensioners railcard for cheap fares and makes a decent wage out of it.

I usually return the favour and stick my thumb up at them as i drive past !!

Think truckers are more likely to pick up a hitch-hiker esp if on a long haul gives them a bit of company on the way.

I gave a couple of lads a lift home from a nightclub once while i was waiting for my mate to come out, they asked if i was a cab (in a renault 5 turbo!!) and offered me 20 quid to take them 10 mins down the road, made them give me the cash first though !
