Default refitting head on CVH

on saturday im giving a mate a hand to put his head back on his car.
its a 1.6 cvh efi turbo.

cand some one please help me out with the torque settings for the head bolts?

were putting a new cam belt on. do i just set the bottom end to tdc before i start, and also set the heah to tdc and then just slide the belt on?

is there anything i should know before starting?

am i going to need any other tools other than the basics like a socket set, torque wrench, spanners, screwdrivers.

any advice from people who've done it will be handy.

cheers

stage 1 = 25nm/18lb-ft
stage 2 = 55nm/40lb-ft
stage 3 = turn 90 degrees
stage 4 = turn 90 degrees

Correct - and they need to be tightened in a certian sequence - ie opposite corners.

so do u go through all the stages in sequence and then put the rocker cover on and your done?

dunno y but for some reason ive got somehting in the back of my mind about doing them up to a certain torque and then driving it and tightening them up a few miles later.

how about setting the bottom end up with the head timing wise?

just put them both to their marks and put the belt on and tension it up?

if u can get a haynes manual for a escort mate all the settings are in there

tells you what to do with the bolt sequence and by the looks of that above i may be wrong until i check but that dont seem rite

COWBOI,

Ok standing in front of the car looking @ the engine,
so the flywheel is to the right, & crank pulley to the left, head sequence, is
9, 3, 1, 5, 7,

8, 6, 2, 4, 10.
Front OF engine.(exhaust)

torque 25,nm
55,nm
+90,degree's
+ 90,degree's
use new headbolts, & no need to retorque,
When you have timed up the engine & fitted cambelt turn the engine over
BY HAND with a spanner 2,revolutions by the crank pulley, so timing
marks realign, also shows you have it timed correctly, ie no valve contact with the pistons, as a guide the cam belt tension on the straight part of the belt, midway,,you should be able to turn the belt with thumb & index finger approx 90degree's. to tight can strain the waterpump & alternator bearings, for what it cost it would be a good idea to get a haynes manual
and read over the job if your not to sure, have fun.

i didnt know u had done any dan.

im sure it wont be to hard. im trying to make simon do it instead of paying jason 80 quid for putting some bolts in.

cheers for all the help guys. ive rebuilt bottom ends, fitting 2ltr engines into novas, changed cams but never actually boltted a head and bottom end together.

hence the questions.

should the engine be driven nicely for a few hundred miles first before giving it the beans?

i made him realise that jason chargeing him 80 quid to put a few bolts in was mad.

tried to make him do it himself. but his head was beyond skimming so paul is giving him a head he bought and fitting it.

so its out of my hands now.
we will c if paul is any good i guess.

but it does mean that i can go and set my gear linkage up on the nova, fill the gear box up with oil, bleed the brakes and go for a drive!

cant wait
