I was removing the exhaust from my XR4x4 so I could fit the stainless ones I have, when I started to remove the downpipes I noticed the nearside was only held on with one bolt and that it was not even the correct bolt or tight!
the stud in the manifold had snapped so I though ok remove the manifold and sort it no bother..On removing the manifold I found one stud ( the back cylinder) had been snapped off flush with the head previously
so I now need to drop the engine and box down to be able to drill it out, any other way I could do it or am I choosing the best option?

did think of taking the head off but the cheaper route is to drop the lot cos I don't need to pay for a new head gasket then!!
this is a budget track car that blew it's budget ages ago!!
Dave, deffo need to do it as the gasket has disapeared and I hate bodges If I know somethings wrong I have to fix it no matter what!!
that way of thinking has cost me a fortune over the years!! lol

right then, el`cheepo mode it is then!
hire a right angle head`d drill (they are available, basically chuck and 1 inch of plastic then it bends 90degrees and that is the main body, battery pack etc.) and drill a pilot hole and then try an easy-out/left handed stud extractor. should come out that way!!!
if not then as you say drop the lot.
Not been about for last month or so due to getting myself a new wench
been practicing my Bo Derk impersonations PMSL

Get the welder out!
Build some weld up on the top of the broken stud till it is proud of the head then use a set of mole grips to remove it.
I did this on a stud on my vectra head worked a treat! The heat from the welding also helps to free the stud, might be a bit of a bitch if it is seized though.
good luck anyway!
