Default Cossie engine Q's

My mates just bought a saff 2wd and its tappety as fook whats the usual/best course of action???

The car has had receipts for an engine build about 14k miles ago but it looks as though the lifters where not replaced but this was 7 years ago. (yes its done bugger all milage in 7 years).


As its just been bought where going to do the cam belt, camshaft seals etc is there anything else we should do at the same time.

Also any ideas on costs before he scares himself at the dealers for lifters, gaskets and seals etc. etc should we need them.

is is tappety when warm after aroud 10mins????

or just when cold???

Could be something silly like shit oil

Use Castrol RS 10-60 or Mobil 1 15-50

Tell him to pick up a copy of performance ford

Someone like Woodford Motorsport will be much cheaper than Ford!

Cometic rocker gasket is about Ł31, 2 x half moon seals are about 3 quid each
Cam shaft seals and the little o-rings around the front cam bearing carriers are only a few quid each
Gates cambelt is about Ł32 from memory

IIRC you can get a set of new lifters for just around Ł100 as well, can't remember where from tho

The sound is intermittant when idleing but also sounds slightly tappety on the move.

I think it is about Ł140 for a full tappet set, worth doing maybe

Well thats what i'm trying to persuade him to do.
Being unfamiliar with the cosworth, do you have to change anything else with the lifters like buckets etc???
