100 cars - 12 per session ?? no need to work that out then.

Sorry guys I know its not 100% your fault But would be interested to hear if any other changes have been implemented other than for signing on...

I remember this thread well from last year

I have been told by D7AKE that the signing in etc will be vastly improved this year.I'm sure after seeing these other concerns he or some other committe member will tell us what other improvements there will be regarding amount of cars on track at a time, number of sessions a track entrant should expect etc etc.Give them a chance to reply as I'm very sure they want to make this a very enjoyable/value for money day for every track entrant.Regards Micky

It always is, was, and still will be a great day out

Its a very hard thing to do is to take criticism for something you think is run well, however constructive criticism should not be taken to mean failure and especially by individual persons. A strong comittee will work as a team to listen, instruct and impliment any changes they see as necessary. Some will work and some won't, but Im sure it will still get the support it deserves

We had nearly 120 cars last year, we were concidering reducing the 100 but unfortunatley the hire of the cirquit is very expensive, this year 100 max this is a max and may not dictate how many bookings we actually get, that with further improvements should see the day improve regarding the track, there will be allocated trailer parking and also two lanes of pre entereed ticket info and driver breifings every 20 minutes where required

Good man Simon (D7AKE) You have addressed 3 major concerns
1.THERE IS 100 CARS MAX ON TRACK
2.Car parking space for track entrants is set aside,so there will be loads of room for trailers and support cars
3.Driver briefing every 20 mins,so no hanging around to get a breifing and so no time wasting regards getting out on track!!!
One question.....2 lanes of pre entered ticket info...Is this two lanes of signing on for track day entrants???

Regards Micky

hope you all have a better day than lat year.

The Information that I can give you on Combe this year is as folows

We are charging £100 for a Day on the track at Combe This includes the £10 Entry fee on the day

two lanes for signing on and a separate lane for passengers

dedicated trailer parking

We are restricted by Castle Combe and the RS Owners Club Insurance to how many we can have on the track at one time

I know it is difficult to compare to other cirquits but to give you an idea

Combe Charge £35 for six laps approx 2 miles long or 15 minutes on their normal run what you brung type days

On average if you get to Combe at 8am sign on have your breifing and get scrutineered you should be in the first 12 cars at 9am or at least the second session alot of people turn up at 9am not knowing and expect to get on track straight away

I would say if this is achieved then you should get a min of 6 sessions round the cirquit this may not seem that much perhaps comparing with other cirquits but you pay your money and you take your choice

So on a normal Combe Day you would pay £10 to get in £35 for 15 minutes session so by my reconin £100 less your £10 to get in you only really need to do 3 sessions technically to get your monies worth

I know that combe is very popular but the cirquit is very very expensive to hire and one of the main ways we pay for this is through the track entrants, and unfortunatley the track was shut for an hour and a half after a very bad accident last year.

I hope this has helped, I do not actually deal with track I deal with traders but you can contact Ian Pullin number is in Rallye News for further info

Any more info mail me

Si

Wish you all well with the day Im sure it will be a sucess as always

I cant justify travelling a return trip of 9 hours for 3 x 15 minute sessions for £100. From reading about the q's last year and seeing them for myself the year before I think 6 would be a optimistic number for everyone to achieve.

To make it work slightly better the sessions would have to be dropped to around 10 minutes each in the morning and then increased to 15-20 mins in the afternoon when part of the field has been depleated by mechanical problems etc.....

At least by keeping people moving through in the morning that will stop the moaning you got in previous years, and by giving them longer sessions in the afternoon (when its generally quieter) you will up the %age value for money

Its not difficult to do - or organise when you have been doing it for years

OK,I just done the math's on this.If you divide the 100 entrants by the 12 cars on track each session you get 8.333.I'll round that off to 8.That 8 represents the number of sessions required so each track entrant gets out on track once.So if a track session is 15 minutes long, each track entrant will get 1 session every 2 hours!!!!! So if all goes well, each entrant will get at least 3 track sessions in the day,and 4 if they're very lucky .I think I've done it correctly, anyone disagree with my maths???And before people say I'm having a go,I have in actual fact paid up fully for track time.Lets hope its worth the long trip from Ireland!!!!!!!!!Regards Micky

Micky, you are correct.

later in the day though you do get cars pulling out due to problems etc....so may get 1 or 2 extra sessions.

To be honest Castle Combe set the number of laps/and time we do not really have any say in this

No one can say for sure how many sessions you will get, every year I've been there has been a accident stopping sessions and more commonly cars breaking down out on the track causing sessions to be stopped. This all loses track time for everyone but still a great day

I totally disagree with you,if you re- read my post above it shows how many sessions a person should get IF NOTHING GOES WRONG ON TRACK!!!This based on 15 minute sessions which is the normal acceptable lenght a track session usually lasts. If cars crash or break down then I know each track entrant will get even less.Regards Micky

I agree with what your saying but my point was that for the last 3 years running I have seen several breakdowns and unfortunatly accidents all causing red flags and sessions to be stopped. I think that once the breakdown / accident is cleared then the cars in that session then re-take to the track, please correct me if I am wrong. This then delays the other sessions and putting session times all to cock. All I was trying to say is that no one can say for certain the amount of sessions there will be. By the way I am not knocking the organisation of this show in any way and would recommend it to any Ford enthusiast.

No mate I'm not, currently using a MK2 Golf GTI for trackdays, have done Donnington afew times and Rockingham a couple of times but as it's a Ford day I think it should be mainly for Ford cars. I've finally found the Fiesta Turbo that I've been looking for for ages so have to wait and see if it works out or not, spect all the places will be gone by then anyway. I'm sure that the organisers have appreciated the feedback from last year and have made every effort to solve the problems from last year. I hope the day also runs smoothly for all

done a few track days at combe with the rs owners club in the past,

but the last couple of years i have not done the track as it was a case of quew with your car all day for a few sessions,

can you not do sessions so you dont have to quew up?

national day is a good example, one session an hour and then you can atleast look round,

from last year when speaking to people who did the track. three or four sessions max was all they got,

shame because the track is nice to drive,

I've been to this show for the last 3 years running and would have to say that the parade laps (when they get all the RS cars out on track together) consume a great deal of time. All of the cars have already been seen in the paddock area so whats the point of this? I admit that it's quite a good sight though to see just about every type of RS car in action but they are only trundling around anyway. If this was not to happen then I expect everyone could get in a extra session or 2.

combe insist on that due to planning regulations they have to close the cirquit technically for 1 hour at lunch time when we do parade

we do parade for 2 other reasons

1st everyone who does not like track action and with mint cars love parade and the feature mags love it 2

and 2nd the money raised goes to charity

sorry

Personally i find this day THE BEST in the RSOC calender, National Day included (helps i only live 20 mins away i guess..) I've done track since the first event they held there, and have always managed to do 5-6 sessions, indeed last year was 6.. My biggest gripe has always been the signing-on and scrutineering malarky which always unfortunately seems to take an age. The guys have obviously picked up on this in a serious way this year, so hopefully should be much better
