Default Protein drinks:

Whats the actual idea behind these?

Are they beneficial?

Remember the post on how many calories etc 1gm of protein = 4 cals so yes if you take it without training you could end up putting on weight. They tend to have a few carbs in there too.

Some are high protein i.e.90%, some are less with more carbs

Protein is the building blocks of muscle into which there are 22 amino acids, which make up protein.

Remember teh rule about 1-1.5gm of protein per lb of body weight, well it can be hard to eat that much protein. This is why we supplement with protein powder. I need about 300gms of protein a day. Thats a lot of tuna and chicken.

It also help the body maintain an anabolic state(growing).

If you feel you are aching too much it could be because you have not recovered enough. Making sure you take enough protein is paramount to help the recovery process.

Paul.

I don't put creatine in the same class of supplements as protein powder. Protein powder actual feeds the body whereas I believe creatine is more of a facilitator.

I've used it on occassions, and when I have I have seen reasonable results.

Without looking up the posh names for it all, basically it makes you train longer and harder. I've always worked on the belief that it helped pack in nutrients, especially glycogen(fuel), into the muscle and thus it takes longer for you to get muscular fatigue.

However, I've just done a quick google search and one site stated that the creatine was a type of fuel itself, almost sacrificial if you like, and got used before eating into your bodys reserves.

When it first started being used it was also claimed that it helped hold water in your muscles(making them bigger). Not sure if I believe that though.

Also it was rumoured to put extra stress on your kidneys so it is advisable to drink loads when taking it.

I've just started taking it again, but I've also upped my protein recently. I have seen some improvements in fullness. Weight is currently the same though.

Hi mate ive just stated using USN 100% Whey Protien
Basicly ive applied to join Thames Valley Police so i could do with
abit more strength building so i can pass there PIRT tests.

I use 50grams of pure porridge oats and to scoops of the whey protein
between 2-3 times a day depending on how hungry iam.

Tbh ive only been using the stuff about a week not really noticed much apart from not aching as much after each training session so something must be working

But the guy down the gym swears by it and he enters Mr Olympia and is built like a brick shithouse

I will be sticking with it just to see what happens, but some of the protien drinks after training help just give your muscles a quick boost.

Hope it goes ok mate

I was given deca for abirthday once. Used it on a 6 week cycle. The thing with gear is that,IMO, you do not need a lot. Just enough to boost over your natual ability.

You also have to make sure you pyramid up and back down again. I think i did

Wk1:5mg/day
wk2-4:15mg/day
Wk5-6:slowly reduce back to 5mg/day then stop.

Its a very short cycle but this was my first time with steriods. I would only recommend them when you have a few years under your belt and you have the diet right.

As they are tabs they will stress the liver/kidneys so I also recommend giving up booze completey when on them .

Your balls will shrink , but they come back .

I also went puffy and held a lot of water So whilst i made good gains in strength and size, I actually looked fat.

If there is genuine interest i'll do a seperate thread although i do not want to advocate their use on a board which is predominantly used by beginner to intermediate level trainers. Fast gains and short cuts lead to rapid loss too

I was under the impresion that protein is not stored by the body. Any that you do not use is passed on. Its the carbohydrates in these type of drinks that will make you put on weight even when not training. This is because the body ultimately stores unused carbs as fat.

If you look at a heavy weightgain shake you will see that it is high in carbs etc but a Whey protein for example has very little.

I would also recommend the pyramiding with oral gear for peace of mind. However, the more modern day view on this is that you don't need to providing you are doing the right PCT. Anyone thinking of taking gear and don't know what PCT is then you don't know enough to be taking steriods in the first place and need to do some more homework.

DECA dies not come in tabs only 250mg vials called Deca Durabolin, its a form of nandralone. Stuff that dwain chambers used when he got banned from olympics!!! If you take creatine you will need a good quality creatine buffer to go with it!!!

best gear to start is a frontload cycle of Test for 12 weeks. run Your Pct of nolvadex, chlomid and HCG when you come off and the gains wont fade.

Will eating too many tins of tuna in one go, actually be detrimental ?

As i read somewhere, eating too much protein is bad and the body stores it as fat above a certain amount digested.

Not by my understanding but I am no expert. As far as I remember the body can only absorb something like 30 grams of protein per hour so eating anymore within that timeframe is pointless. The rest you pass on.

The body stores fat & unused carbohydrates a fat.
