Default Considering joining gym....pointers?

Hi there,

I have been considering this alot recently, I spend alot of time alone due to my job plus im getting into some bad habits so was thinking about joining a gym. I dont really do a great deal during my days at workdue to various reasons so by joining up it might give me a chance to meet some new people and fill some of the voids in my day as well as giving me some well needed motivation.

I'm 27, about 5ft9 and weigh about 10.5stone. Im a very unfit previous smoker, I rarely do any excercise and want to not only get fitter but also to sort out my eating habits and give myself a more shapely body.

There is a few things that I wondered before I start signing up to this that and the other and thats the following....

How much roughly should I be looking at spending a month?

How do I know what machines I should be using, for how long and how often?

Should I improve my eating habits before using the gym or start everything off together?

Im guessing its not an easy thing to try to explain but any tips or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Paul

hi mate.i joined the gym last week and i have to admit its one of the best things ive done.i feel so much better already.im getting obsessed with it now tho.every where seems to be roughly Ł30 a month membership,il be doing it 3-4 times a week tho so well worth it.my diet now consists of
breakfast.one of the following
3 weetabix
porridge with raisins
scrambled egg on wholemeal bread

lunch.
tuna and boiled rice

dinner.one of the following
baked potatoe
steak
fish
chicken
pasta

i also make sure i get fruit throughout the day as snacks and a handfull of nuts.cashew etc.
after the gym i have a whey protein shake with half a banana blended in also.
i allow myself on saturdays to eat some not so good food like a couple cream scones etc but thats it.i lost half a stone on weightwatchers before going on to this diet as im now 12.5 stone and a good shape to start building muscle.
oh and regarding the machines.you will have to do an induction at your gym so you can ask the instructors what you want from it also

Thanks for that, at least I have a few pointers. Got an appointment at a gym on Monday so I can have a look around and see if I like it, the guy on the phone says it'll blow my mind lol

I had my last unhealthy meal this morning so i'm going to be good from now on, started taking my 5 a day yesterday in the form of fruit and smoothies.....a friend who uses the gym recommends taking vitamins to boost the body incase changing eating habits doesnt give me the goodness I need.....lets see how we get on eh!

Cheers
Paul
