i suppose your right really, but we all want to get bigger, lift heavier etc....

if you look better at a lighter weight but lift less, then its up to you what you want....look good, more cut up etc...or lift heavy in the gym and look more bulky...think i would prefer the cut up look lol.

cut up for summer heavy for winter.

Looking good Kieron (no, not in a ahem funny way).

Had an enforced three or four weeks off from training due to injury (I never warm up correctly), went back yesterday and I was as weak as a pussy cat, the shame of it.

Will post some pics of my rather underwhelming physique as soon as it has seen some sun, as the pasty white may offend

Managed to press 100kgs for 20 reps this week. Well 19 + 1 slightly assisted (over zealous spotter). Tried it for an online competition that I was thinking of entering. Was going up piece of piss untill about 18/19 then I hit a brick wall. Repping out is not as easy as it looks.
20 reps at 100kg is alot harder than i ever thought it would be,you just seem to hit a brick wall half way through, if your in to that kind of punishment try deadlifting 100kg, 100 times in the shortest amount of time as you can....

Did you give it a try then? How many did you manage?

That would take me weeks. I'm not much of a deadlifter.

Someone has posted a vid of them doing 100 for 33 reps which makes my effort seem somewhat poor!

Just post them up mate.

The last week for me has been a bit lapse but hoping to be back on it this week. Only takes a missed session for it to play with my mind and strength goes. Funny how yoou miss a day or two and feel like you've lost a couple of stone of muscle!

Yes pal, lot harder than I thought. Got to 13 and cheated up 2 more.

The deadlifting one is a killer, you get to the 30's then it feels like the weight has doubled....

You do burn out quickly don't you. Seems easy at first but the engergy stores soon go.

Still 13 reps is not too shabby!

They done something similar in one of local gyms a few years back which i competed in, most reps of 100kg 200kg dead and 150kg squat...

But fatigue kicks in very quickly, you feel strong then all of a sudden its gone..

Well, feel like a bit of a weed now

I weigh 78kg, and I currently bench 50kg. 3 sets of 10 flat.

It is a massive improvement, when I started all this weight training 3 months ago I struggled with 15kg

Just read this from end to end, its been a good read. I have just got back into training after almost 3 years off. On week one I struggled to do 40kg+bar*. It hurt... a lot!

2 weeks later I am back up to 60KG + bar for 8 reps.

*I dont know what the bar weighs... must find out.

The bar weighs 20kg if it's a standard olympic bar. If you are in a gym and have access to a decline bench, try that. You'll lift more as it uses much more of the pec' muscle and is also better than flat because it puts you in a more natural position and is less likely to cause you injury. Nearly all muscle tares to the pecs are done on a flat bench.

Ive stopped barbell pressing as I wasn't progressing and am currently doing 8-10 reps on the 57Kgs dumbells. I'm hoping to build these up to the 60-65kgs range and that it will improve my barbell work..

We will see.

I would be very happy to do 100. Why 100?
Becuase its three figures... very scientific. LOL

Get some threaded collars and cheap plates. The heavy weights in my gym are all made up and not fixed. Think you can get 60kgs on a bar with 3 10 plates a side.

Just the bars are on there BIN for about Ł23.00. may even get them cheaper at the local BB shop. Could then add your plates to them.

They are big buggas. Do you have a training partner to help you set 'em up?

Yes I have to get my training partner to lift atleast one for me but its better if there are two others there to pass them both. Waste too much energy trying to get set up if you do them alone.

They press easlily enough one in position but its hard to sit up with them on your chest so definately need some help.

57KG is a lot of weight, and I don't know of many people who will lift that. I'd struggle to pick one up to pass you it.

Just ordered some spinlock handles and bought a load of 10kg and 5kg plates, see what i can do? as my flat bench is getting worse if anything, so going to concentrate more on inc and dec bench.

interesting read this post lads. Good to see everyone getting stronger. However im surprised people are still using the bar when training chest. Dumbells gives a far more better workout and offers a full range of motion. Using the bar is just up and down. Your weights cant meet in the midde either then. As already mentioned i think to get big use dumbells as that is more effective at ripping the muscle and the bar for strength training. When i was at uni i was on roids and i used to use the bar then. That was 5years ago. . I Then stopped totally and in 3months using dumbells i got better shape in my chest than i ever did and i dont even take protein shake now let alone roids. Anyway keep up the good work, roll on next summer

You dont think you better shape you have now has anything to do with muscle memory or that you may have lost weight? Less water retention?

DB's have their place, as does the bar! I see alot of people allowing the DB's to come in towards their chest at the bottom of the rep to the weight is less as its not out or directly over the elbow. Brings the Tris into play too much. You can't do that with a bar. You can also add more weight to the bar and spot it better.

Horses for courses.

Good work mate, an impressive weight.

Things slowed up a bit for me due to missed session and injury but last week I made up some 60's (well 63 including the bar) and managed 4 or 5 reps unaided. Was hoping for more but it seemed a huge step up from the 53's I have been doing. Not touched the 57's in months if truth be told. May give them another go tomorrow.
