Default 1.3 to 1.7 engine swap MK5 fiesta

In planning to do the popular puma conversion on my mk5 '51 plate fez.
It's a 1.3 HCS I have read as much as I can find online but it's mainly based on people going from 1.6 zetec to the puma lump so thought id ask if anyone had any advice for me going from my 1.3 engine.

Is there any difference in gearbox mounts or gearbox ratios etc I.e do I need a puma/1.6 fez box?

I've heard the driveshafts need to be changed - something about them being too short and popping out on full lock?

The fuel lines - are these going to be ok for the puma lump as I know the 1.6 ones fit but have to be re-routed.

Also the PAS pipes do these need changing or are all fez ones the same regardless of engine?

Just had a thought, what I said about the driveshafts had to be rubbish because if I'm using the same g/box how could the driveshafts possibly be a problem?!

Ive been doing a little more research on what i need, unfortunatley I dont have the luxury of space so buying a donor car isnt possible and seeing as this is my only motor at the moment im going to need to make sure I can get it all done in a few days but as far as I can tell its a pretty fool proof conversion.

I have worked out that i need the following:

  • Engine (obviously)
  • Gearbox - 1.6 or puma
  • Driveshafts - Any zetec fiesta or puma
  • Air-box
  • Maf sensor
  • Front fuel pipe sections (these are joined to the rest of the fuel line near the bulkhead somewhere so only need the front)
  • All coolant hoses - from any zetec fez or puma
  • Radiator - 1.6/puma
  • Gearbox Mount - Puma
  • Top engine mount - Puma
  • Throttle cable
  • Engine loom
  • ECU
  • Key chip & Transponder ring
  • Exhaust Manifold/Cat - 1.6/puma
Please let me know if theres anything ive missed or anything i dont need from my list!

Had a thought - I intend on not running A/C as my car dosent have it anyway. My question is how do I go about finding a belt to run the AUX side of things on the engine because a normal puma 1.7 belt won't fit once I remove the A/C compressor.

You need a non air con power steering pump and pipes which you should have on the 1.3.
You mount it on the front instead of the back so you also need a non a/c aux belt hope that helps

Ahh! Brilliant, is there a puma which ran no a/c?
If not which belt would I use?

Also any ideas which ECU I need to use? I know it has to be from a 'digital build car' but I've heard there's a few which are more ideal for the fiesta for some reason.

Personally I just want the MUFF ECU.....

It will help with only having one lamba so wont throw up eml, the pop and bangs will happen on overrun

Been thinking a bit more about this conversion and i have yet more questions which hopefuly somone will be kind enough to answer!

1. Whats involved in sorting out the fuel lines, can i just buy the front section of the puma (engine bay) pipes because it looks like the join to the rest of the fuel line just underneath the bulkhead area on ecat.

2. The 'TAPE' ecu which i have been told i need, is this ok to run the digi version (mines 2001 reg)

3. Obviously i will be adding the white digi dials as i currently have no rev counter or temp guage and a lovely picture of a car. I need to know if this is just plug-and-play or do i need to re-wire cirtain things?

4. Understand theres something i need to do with the puma loon regarding two multiplugs being incorrect for the reverse light switch however if i am using a puma G/box this should plug straight in surely?!
