After abit of advice;

just changed the fuel filter and now it wont start. I took the old filter off and had to take the senser bit off the back and put it on the new filter then plugged all the pipes back on, it did start first time but then cut out (guessing it used the fuel in the pipe) tried to start it again but just wont start and the engine management light is on. Ive taken the pipes off and turned it over but niether is pushing any fuel out.
Has anyone got any ideas on what could be the problem?

You've got trapped air in the system. Remove filter, fill to the brim with diesel and refit. Have you got a manual primer on one of the fuel lines? If so pump that a few times. If it still doesn't start, you will need to crack off each injector in turn and turn the engine over until you get all the air out and diesel is coming out.

If it still doesn't start, tow it down the road and try bump starting it, that should get it going.

When my 1.4tdci van ran out of desiel i had to tow and bump it to get it going.

mate fill the filter with diesel if it dont start dont crack the injectors off just spray a bit of easy start down the intake pipe and it will fire and let it run for for a few mins but dont keep cranking it if it dont start first time
