Default Heater always hot, even when it's on cold?

Mk4.5 smiley face

You get the engine up to operating temps and then all you get is hot air through the vents, even when the dial is turned to cold

It psychically stops when it turns at either end so I'm not sure if the cable has come off or not, but sometimes it totally cold before getting blisteringly hot again

It's got ac if that makes a difference

Any pointers?

as above, 2 pipes in and 2 pipes out and a multiplug on the side. ka or puma uses the same part if you're gonna hunt around a breakers. Be careful when taking the hoses off the unit though as the dowels are prone to breaking off!

These are controlled by a PWM circuit, there is no cable to regulate the temperature.

Easy way to test that the control circuit is working -

Get a 12v 5w bulb and couple bits of wire (I use an old mk4 Escort side repeater bulb/holder)

Disconnect heater control valve connector and connect the bulb to it.

With engine running, and heater hot/cold in varied positions the bulb will either

Stay off in one position

Be on all the time in the opposite position.

In the middle position it will flash about once a second.
