Im sure this has been asked before , but what do I need to upgrade my st brakes to mk3 modeo spec.
as far as i can tell i need the following.
discs
callipers
pads
carriers
and drill out the hubs
Im staying with the stock wheels
no idea if spacers are required.
any advice would be welcome

everything else fits up

the only thing is the year of fiesta as you will need to drill out the hubs from 10 to 12mm

spacers vary from car to car, some need them some don't, my mk4 didn't but the mk3 does

you might not even need to drill the hubs then, whip the wheel off and remove one of the bolts to see if it's got a 17mm head and is an M10 or a 15mm head and is an M12

the only pain is when using mondeo calipers and st170 discs it costs more rather than the discount of buying a single set of discs and pads for a st170 and the mondeo calipers are a bit more chunky

what would u recommend and where is a good place to get the parts from . the std brakes are not great

if you have not bought them yet just buy a set of st170 front brakes as it makes life far easier, I'm out of brakes at moment but plenty on ebay

Ive been toying with the idea of doing this mod to the Fiesta as it needs new breaks but I think I'm going to go with the ST170 stuff.

I've done this to mine with refurbished mk3 mondeo calipers and mk1 focus ST discs
When I was weighing up the options of ST170/mondeo calipers, I heard it was easier to get pads for the mondeo calipers, but don't know if that's actually true.

This guy sells a full kit with refurbed calipers for £200, which isn't bad considering by the time you've got all the bits it will cost about the same

As said above, you need to drill the hubs from 10mm bolts to take 12mm bolts (which isn't hard)
If you don't get the bolts with the calipers, ford charge £5 each for them, so I got some grade 10.9 zinc-plated ones for 50p each
No need for spacers if your wheels are the standard ST 17s (but note the spare wheel won't fit after)

Cost me £70 to do it all originally, but the first set of cheap old calipers I got siezed and warped the disc so I had to buy the whole lot again. Second time around I went for EBC 'GD' discs and greenstuff pads, here it is:

pads are easy to get for either, better deals are to be had when buying a disc and pad kit as you cant do it with mondeo calipers as the correct discs is 5 stud so the 170 brake set up is far easier to obtain for 4 stud fitment

Im a normal sort of driver . but the std brakes are worse than my polo,s , just want to go the simplest route with this .

but if you have already bought mondeo calipers you need to mix and match pads with discs so theres a huge choice out there

Are the discs old? If so they might not be working at their best, and the simplest route might be to replace the standard discs and fit uprated pads, although the pads will be more expensive.

Agreed, the ST170 disc/pad combo is cheaper as you can buy them as a set. Another factor in me choosing the Mondeo calipers is I was struggling to get the ST170 ones

I had standard discs with m1144 pads and it made a massive difference!

discs and pads are all new , they stop the car but tbh very little bite to them ,got the st170 callipers and discs on the way now, my old polo was better
they have improved a bit since bedding in but are still not great on a quick car

OK have got my st 170 discs pads , callipers, and carriers and bolts , will i need to some spacers to aline the callipers as they are offset to fit the 150. I know I need to drill out the holes from 10 to 12 mill

shouldn't do, but bolt everything up first and then put on 2 wheel nuts to seat the discs too as there are varying stories about alignment

I did this mod on my old puma. It cost me 40 quid for a pair of st17O discs and i won a complete set of calipers with nearly new pads for 45 quid including delivery. Its a good cheap mod.

yes wheel spacers are not needed its the calliper disc spacing that im concerned about

Won't be a problem with the focus ST calipers if the disc is 300mm diameter, will fit right on
The only alteration at all is the bolt holes, everything else should fit

thanks when I said calliper disc relationship what I should have said was do the st170 callipers have the same offset as the st ones ( as in the disc will be central between the pads ) Thanks for all your help

ok a little information that I have found out st150 and st170 use same calipers . but the drilling in the st170 carriers are spaced differently to allow the use of a 300mm disk so all i need to do is mount the st170 carriers and a 300mm disc, plus drill the 10mm holes out to 12mm fingers x this is right
