Hi
i've been working on a mates 2001 Fiesta 1.6 zetec that he said has a knocking coming from the front. Knocking is present mainly on bumoy roads etc
I had a look at it & noticed the wishbones looked a bit worse for wear, mainly the rear bush that's closest to the bulkhead. Anyways i was pretty sure that's what was knocking so replaced both wishbones for him.
This hasn't cured the problem & i'm now slightly stumped as to what it can be as i've swung on everything & also used a bar to see how much play there is in everything else.
The only thing i've found that seems like it could be knocking is the brake pivot shaft. I've never done anything with 1 of these so i don't know how much play they have in them but if you grab it & move it about it def causes a knocking noise.
Anybody else come across this? Does the whole shaft have to be replaced or are there bushes etc than can be replaced?
thanks
Craig

BLU is the new black :)
Antiroll bar drop links/link rods. They're only cheap to replace too.
as i already said i've checked everything else by swinging on them & using a bar to check for play, everything else is solid.
The knocking seems to be coming from quite close to the bulkhead which is why i initially thought it was the rear bushes on the wishbones.

The drop links can knock even if they look solid..... almost as bad a design as the wishbones.Originally Posted by actionman

Failing that it could be the universal joint to the steering rack or the rack itself.

if theres no play anywhere else then id say anti roll bar bushes, my fiesta used to knock like anything untill i swapped them for some pollys
doesn't sound like drop links to me, i've replaced plenty on all sorts of vehicles & the knocking this fiesta is doing doesn't seem to be coming from that area. Sounds like it's around the bulkhead somewhere, i'll have another look at the anti roll bar bushes

there suspension top cups and lower ball joints to look at but those would give movment in the wheel when wobbled so i doubt very much it would be them.
i no the steering rack has bushes in it to secure onto the subframe, at a very long shot it could be them.
iv fixed a few fiestas knocking by swapping out the roll bar bushes
