Default Fiesta T3 conversion *PICS*

Is it really as simple as bolting on the manifold and T3, shifting the rad, sorting the downpipe and messing about with some pipes?

Wanting to do my FRST in the next few weeks and want to DIY the job

Just fitted mine in few pics mate...

Conversions quite straight forward if you've got every thing to hand, I still have my amal valve conected and it runs water still, as some people disconnect theirs. Downpipes the tricky bit I had one moded but it did'nt fit perfect ,so having a stainless one made up arrives monday

Nice.

Hoping to retain the water cooling on mine as well. May have to knock up a few bits but am in no hurry to put the car back on the road so can take my time to do it right

I know FT.com well as I dared say 17's on a Fiesta would handle baddly and some of the kids on there didn't like it Can't be bothered with the site now. Shame as there were quite a few people on there that knew their stuff.

When we did my conversion 3 years ago We never re-connected the water pipe, as you are better off without the water running through it

Its never caused us any grief and its been 100% reliable that way

i'll try dig some pics out for you later

When I do it I will take pics as I go. It's bound to be of use to other FRST owners

for the oil return..

i took the small t2 pipe out of the block... its actually push fit into the block but there is a nut fitting which helps you unscrew it...

I then used a spare t3 turbo oil return... cut the end off and this is a perfect fit into the block and you can then its like factory fit for the ERST. (though you need an ERST return pipe (heard its £40 from ford!!)

So... is it really safe to not use the water-cooling for the ERST S2 turbo?

This helps alot to keep the engine temps down but how reliable would be the turbo?

Provided the turbo is allowed to warm and cool properly it should be fine. Many people don't run with water cooling once the T3 conversion has been performed, my bro included.

I, however, will be retaining the water cooling

best thing you can do for the down pipe mate is use an ERST downpipe and then cut and weld the downpipe to the FRST mid section to create one long pipe!

this is how Matt did mine and few others with very good results!

thats a bit harsh dude, just because some1 dont agree with what you say, no need to spit ya dummy wondered why i aint seen you on there.

as for the t3, keep the water cooling, makes no difference at all. does not make it run hotter. mine ran perfect

i had the escort downpipe welded onto the frst exhaust.

the radiator is fixed on the inside of the engine bay, all i did was fix it the other side, making about 1 - 2 cm more room for the actuator bracket

id also fit the airfilter under the battery tray. its not 2 hard at all

Cheers for the input

I won't list my issues with the site here as it's not on and in nobodies best interests. I shall just say I left due to a difference of opinion and leave it there.

Not bad for an afternoons work although taking an angle grinder to the mint front panel was a bit scary. Rachel looking over my shoulder to make sure I didn't hurt her baby did nothing to calm me as sliced the metal

Should be running by mid to end of next week

you mite notice a knocking from the exhaust passes over the subframe, because the downpipe is quite long , thats wht i noticed once i done th conversion on my car, simple answer is to lower the subframe down on a few washers, problem solved, i just dont undestand why the fiesta deprived a t3 a birth

My bro is shit hot with a welder so he is going to knock me up a custom downpipe to mate up with the Magnex's flexi pipe.

Had to take a grinder to the front panel to give the clearance for the rad fan and to make fitting and removal of the rad and cooler easier in the future.

I don't do bufty. Only shiny stuff in my bay is functional.

Might give it a clean up though while it's in bits.
