Default Worth while project?

Hello

Im looking to build a car, for kicks and to learn more about engines and tuning etc rather than for a specific use really.

My thought are a mark 3 xr2i with an escort RST engine the full monty with bigger brakes etc.

But is this too much for someone who has hasnt done anything like this before? i know it isnt original and many people have beat me to it, but i think it will be relatevly cheap and lots of fun when complete.

hi mate. the transplant shouldnt be a problem, its pretty easy. although its not an original idea it is bloody good 2 drive and pretty quick aswell. got any ideas for the brakes? i recommend wilwood calipers. they are shit hot.this will also mean u will have 283 mm discs!

I havent really thought about anything, i saw the fiesta centre do a rear break conversion for Ł200, havent a clue what they are tho!

The only problem i can think of facing is the exhaust, getting an RST to fit the Fiesta, but i imagine thats the least of my worries

How many hours work in total do you think there is in it then mate?

I take it ill need a full RST for the conversion to take the engine, gear box, wiring loom?? pretty much everything?

Why dont you just buy a frst then you wont have to swap engines or have to mess about with the loom. A rear disc conversion isnt really needed unless your thinking about getting some serious power out of your engine

I wont really learn much about what goes into an engine conversion with a frst mate.

Buying one and doing all the tuning mods myself is an option im looking at though, would that be a better option to start out with? then one day put that tuned engine in a fiesta?

Well mate it would be better to start off with if your learning you could strip and rebuild it and then eventually turn to transplants when you've built up the confidence and skills. I'm just thinking that this would be better for you and then you wont have to mess with all the wiring which can be a nightmare. The frst engine is just as tuneable as the erst

They are probably about the same tuning wise you can do just as much to frst as you can to the erst

So surely a FRST motor would be the most sensible option for this project?

Suppose its really upto u tho Mancunian Lee. What kinda budget r u working with?

No proper budget tbh mate, just a pay as you build and its done when its done

I can strip an engine and stick it back together no problem, ive even rebuilt a wankel before now i just havent really tuned them or transplanted them so im looking to do that next.

The two that ive been lead to believe are pretty straight forward are Golf GTI - VR6 and the XR2i - FRST and im a big fan of the blue oval so im thinking of doing that plus the FRST will go in my locost eventually i reckon (that currently has an old xflow engine in it )
