thinking of a rs turbo??????
i love rs turbos and i would really love to have one and this question may get asked hundreds of times before. But i spoke to some people who have known people to have them and they all keep saying stay away as they are prone to blowing turbos up. is this true and what can be done by preventing this if i had one?
Cheers

because you had no probelms with your t2 is that because you dont rev the nuts of it? How much would a FRST be with a t3 turbo on it and is there anythings that can be done to maintain it to help prevent them blowing up?

t2s are no lag but if you really want one get a t3,not good as a every day car but what ford is whats it going to be used for?they dont ever blow up as people say
(e.g. dont get a fiesta rs turbo itll blow up.how do they know if it will?every car is different),the only cars which blow up are r5gtt's but if the boost is too high e.g. 20+on a t2 or even a t3 equipped car,you could risk damage to be caused

All turbo's fail if you run them on their limited, if you kept on standard boost then it maybe ok on a T2 but i would strongly advice a T3, i had a T2 on my old fiesta and that was running 8psi and that fail with no abuse at all, then i fitted a T3 and drove the car to its full potential with no problems what so ever.
As for the conversion i can do them in about 3 hours back up and running.
Parts you need:
T3 turbo
manifold - gasket
actuator
oil return plug for the block
rubber oil return turbo - block
Escort oil feed hose
converted downpipe - powerflow made me a SS one for £40 fitted
Oil and filter
re-plumb in the amal valve - just extra air pipe

I have gone through a range of turbo's on my FRST and i would say if you drive the car daily your much better with the stronger T3.

Cossie Cal- Whats the rolleyes for??
I laughed because Sassy's comment was pretty funny IMO. She and Guzzler are pretty clued up on FRST's...like me! I have had 6 or so different turbo's on mine over the years so i know what works and what doesnt.
I have seen you Fiestaturbo.com. Cant help but think you have picked up some dodgy info from a 17 year old. People go on and on about the "lag" on T2's and T3's without even comparing them. Dont know how people can make that assumption but seeing as i have had a T2, T25, T3 and 4X4 T3 in various guises on mine i reckon i can give an honest opinion.
You made a dodgy statement and was called on it, no need to get defensive or arsey!
I have spent a fair whack of money over the years and IMO with T2's it's only a matter ot time before they start smoking and then you pay waaaay more to replace them or refurb them. So you may as well get a stronger T3, more tuning potential and cheaper
yeah yeah yeah....but the lag?? Well, what minimal difference there is soon gets overruled by the fact the car will pull much stronger and soon overtake a T2 equipped FRST.
T2's- My opinion is enjoy it while its lasts (not very long usually) and when it dies uprate it with a cheaper, easier to find T3.

Just to add I T3'd my FRST and was using it as a daily runner. Undistinguishable between the two turbo's pretty much until you give it beans and the poofy T2 runs out of puff and the T3 doesn't
The people that bleat on about poor reliability tend to buy at the bottom end of the market, treat the cars like shit and don't maintain them.

I prefer the T3 for driveability
I have both these cars and the saxo vtr is much better handler than the frst, i think fiesta's are a shit handling car compared to all the other small hatches out there.
but you can get a fiesta to handle but you need to spend a few quid to do it.

But... then the comfort goes out the window so it all depends on what you want really.

but im sure if you have a really good suspension e.g. coilovers its will handle much better.

Compared to more modern hot hatches they are not anything special! You can have a laugh in them but nothing amazing.
With some good mods they can be a good giggle though, strut braces, suspension, bushes, lower arms, ATB diff all help

I had my old one for about 4 years, and used it every day of the year Originally it was still on its standard turbo which was fine, then i had the engine rebuilt to a fairly decent spec running 200bhp and the turbo was still ok. Eventually i changed it for a stage 3 hybrid and with this put £20 a week in fuel, but obviouly not ragging it and you could hardly hear the turbo or dump valve......................but come the weekend it got ragged constantly
Awesome cars, so much fun, and i still miss mine There not the best handling car, but as said, theye are soooo much fun
