Just a quickie to see if anyone else has had a heatshield made/adapted for their fiesta turbo as because they are next to each other the heat from the T3 turbo is causing the car to cut out!
Has been suggested on FT the heatwrap the manifold and use a fiesta starter motor heatshield from ford, but will that fit due to the setup being so different from std?
Any help appreciated as i am ignorant lol and was built to drive cars and not fix them

i have never had a T3 fail from heat? I'd say thats a bit iffy!
Do you know your oil temps?
Might be better to buy an oil cooler, some ceramic coating and feed some air in from a foglight or something!
Im not totally convinced by stainless steel heatshields!

whats cutting out got to do with the starter
heatsoak only effects the car when the engine is switched off from hot, and then wont start again, and 8 out of 10 times, this is due to the wiring to the starter fooking up, and not heatsoak (if your running a standard t3 that is)
the ford heatshields are made of fibreglass, so they wont have too much heat soaking capabilities

Basically what hes trying to say is... The car when it gets hot over a period of time has caused the starter to cook.. when its turned off it wont restart until the starter cools down (so it seems)
The car dips the revs and stalls every now and then (not all the time)
Matt said it may be the ECU hence why hes gonna sort you the other one out (when hes feeling better atm hes off work ill)
We thought that maybe a heatshield over the turbo protecting the starter may help the NEW starter from future trouble?
any ideas?

My starter went tits up 2 days after I brought my FRST. Quick trip to see a mate at the local motorfactors and a new one was fitted and she's been good as gold since.
With regards to the revs just dropping off mine does that too and it's got me stumped

I have never had a starter fail due to a T3 conversion only alternators until i fitted an escort heat shield, but i can understand as it gets very hot around that area.
As for revs dropping i think it has something to do with the efi setup on these, they are 17-18 years old now combine that with the heat under the bonnet resulting in temperamental components.

does it wotk ok tho jay? have u noticed any difference .i.e were you getting probs with your starter and now your not?
It was something i was thinking of getting (well a heatshield initally) but never got around to doing as it was ok.
But looks like Chris may need to do this mod as soon as really.

Well my old starter was on there for all the time i've had the car (5 years) when the t34 went on there it finished it off so i bought a new starter and didn't what to use the escort heatshield as the idea of a wrap sounded better for cooling to stop this happening again and i knew Thermo-Tec was goood as im using there manifold wrap and that's is very good stuff
