Default FRST Wiring loom

Hi there, my entry into performance fords has been a bit of a shit one to say the least!!

Bought the rs fiesta did 12 miles and it blew to shit and dumped oil everywhere!!

The engine is currently being re built, but i have noticed theres quite a bit of botched wiring etc in the engine bay. Is it easy enough to buy a new loom and replace all the wiring?? Or is this going to be a pig of a job? Just want to get the wiring tidy and reliable!!

What wiring is bodged up? If its the engine loom its easy, just unplugs, if its part of the main loom then that will be more fun and games

Welcome by the way and sorry to hear about your engine

hi ya mate cheers for welcome!
Luckily its just the engine loom, i want it to be nice and tidy so i think replacing the whole loom will be the best answer!
Sounds like it wont be too bad a job then fingers crosssed!!!

The engine loom is extremely easy to change, you will be happy to know I'd say probably the hardest part will bge un-doing the 2 x 10mm nuts on the ECU cover

Hi mate,

I had the same problem with a FRST I bought a few weeks ago..
The loom was a bit of a mess to say the least. Nothing was missing
but some idiot had taken most of the insulation tape off and tried to hard
wire the rad fan in??

Anyway, I started by removing anything bulky in the way of me
making amends ie. rad, intercooler etc. Unclipped the loom from any
remaining fixing clips and gave it all a good wipe down with a bit
of white spirit.. Don't use anything too strong or you might ruin the cables?

Any spade connectors or any spliced ends were treated to new connetions
and all sealed off with shrink tubing.

Once it was reasonably clean, I started to rewind new insulation tape around
the relevent sections of cable. Once that was done I fitted cable spiral wrap
around the full engine bay loom to prevent the tape from ever coming loose again.

It all seemed a bit too much at first.!! But once you get into it, it only
took around 4 hours start to finish..

I've put up these pics to paint a proper picture.. Excuse the state of the
car at the moment.. This is how I bought it. The car will be stripped,
treated and re-sprayed before the new black interior goes in.
Same goes for the engine bay. It's filthy.!! Wont be when it's done..

PART OF LOOM BEFORE ?? WHY DO THIS ??

AND ANOTHER...

STARTING TO LOOK BETTER ALREADY.... NEVER MIND THE OIL.. ENGINE WILL BE DONE IN TIME....

AND ANOTHER...

AND ANOTHER...

AND FINALLY THE LOOM COMPLETE....

NEW BATTERY TRAY DEFO NEEDED..!!!

Fairplay that wiring was shocking before. And fairplay for the perseverence with the cable wrap, that stuff takes AGESSSSSS to do
