Default Fuel Gauge Query...

The fuel gauge on our 1992 MK5 1.8Lt 130ps Escort cabby always shows the fuel content even when the ignition is switched off or the key removed . This situation has been present since we purchased the cabby some 6yrs ago..
If the car is left garaged for 5 to 6 days ,then the battery is often far too low to start the engine , but , if the battery is disconnected it stays virtually fully charged for quite a few months . Is this constant fuel reading a common feature
on MK5 Escorts , or have I got an electrical prob to solve ?
Thanks............Rustler.......... "The Oldest Cabbier".......

Thanks Guys......
Well at least I now know that the constant reading fuel gauge isn't the cause of the battery going down so fast..............So...I'll have to start thinking about my battery prob problem more seriously....
......Thanks Again......... Rustler............ "The Oldest Cabbier"...
