Is the wiring loom one big loom all connected? the RS1600i ignition wiring loom is seperate from the main loom, whereas the XR3i is part of the loom that runs across behind the front panel

If its a normal XR3i loom the distributor and coil wires run down along the front valence with the headlight loom incorperated.

With the 16i loom the ignition loom is seperate from the main loom and runs along the back of the engine connecting to various sensors and of course the coils

Will see if i can get a pic tomorrow

The coils have been known to be troublesome and for most people the only option was to fit a dizzy as ignition parts can be hard to find and expensive

mind you most can be found on ebay now

If you're going to get this system working you'll also need the RS1600i flywheel and gearbox sensor.

You'll also need the get the hole precision drilled into the bottom of the gearbox to fit the sensor in, - the fiesta's box won't have the hole. These sensors can be an absolute nightmare and have been the cause of many rs1600i owners converting to a distributor.

Are you sure you want to ditch the Fiesta's EFI in favour of the older system used on a 1600i? You could put the head off your RS1600i on the Fiesta's original CVH with some work. The 1600i bottom end is standard XR3.

You don't need the ECU, sensor lead, twin coils, gearbox or any of that stuff if you're running a distributor. To be honest you don't need the 1600i loom either as you'd be using an XR3i setup.

Are you sure its a proper RS1600i lump? What's the part number cast in the head on the inlet side between cylinders 2 and 3?

Um, I can't remember off the top of my head I need to look it up. I'll dig it out in a bit.

Also you might want to take a look at the rockers and see if they have a hole above the lifter. Does it still have the solid lifters too?

Has the cylinder head got square or round exhaust ports? i believe that number is for the RSi cylinder head

Block doesnt really matter is its the same as any 1.6 CVH

BP285, think that might be a piper cam not sure?

P.S. i have pics of the wireing loom if your still interested

Doesn't sound like an RS1600i cylinder head mate. I'm pretty sure the RS head has round ports and H81SM-6090-BRA is the number for a XR3i head. The head number for the RS1600i is H81SM-6090-AA.

BP285 is definately a piper cam though,- you can find the spec for it here: http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/fra...-BL&PID=318166

To be honest it sounds like a tuned XR3i lump and an XR3i loom, - nothing wrong with that. If it was a genuine RS1600i cylinder head it would be a real result because they're very hard to find.

Yes but an RS1600i lump is exactly the same as an XR3 lump. The only special bit is the head/cam etc. Without that you might as well have the bottom end from a 1.6GL.

The RS head already has larger ports and valves so exchaning a genuine head with the solid lifters, higher ratio rockers etc for a worked over XR3i head is a very curious move.

Quite often when someone buys a RS1600i lump it ultimately turns out to be an XR3i lump with the motorsport rocker cover on.[/i]
