Rs2000 What next???
Just stripped out interior to find the following.
All underneath the car has been wax proofed to I think hide the rust. I was thinking of getting the underneath sand blasted. Would I need to strip the underside of the car completly?
Apart from that where do I go next? I figure I need to stop the passenger side and driverside from raining in and rusting from the inside out. The sound proofing was wet through on the passenger side. The pillar on that side of the car is also rusty and has actually got a large hole 5 inches by 2 inches ISH. I think the water maybe going down the door strip and into this hole and out of the bottom.
Just a bit stressed at the minute , and cant think what way to go next.
Cheers

Oh dear
Have you tried the old trick of getting in the car and getting someone to spray a hosepipe over it? that'll help you find where its leaking
my RSi has similar corrosion in that area, i know theyre not the same car but check your bulkhead for any signs of corrosion as it my be leaking in there
Do you have a sunroof? check the drain channels arent blocked, also check the condition of your door seals (use the hosepipe test)
What is the sunproofing made of? can it be removed? The soundproofing on my RS just acted like a big sponge and rotted my front floors pull it all out and get rid, it does more harm than good
If youre going to sandblast the underside i think you should strip it completely, you dont want to damage any vital components

Im going to do "The Hospipe" test, that shit under the carpet it like underlay but made out of odds and sodds me thinks.
Will also check for sun roof drain blocking. Any easy way of doing this?
I'm looking at just getting replacement panel fitted in, however I dont think im gunna find one for the floor. I dont really wanna be having plates put in here n there. Could I cut the floor out of another car and fit that in??
Cheers so far fellas.

Is the soundproofing stuck to the floor? Its up to you but i know i would remove and sling it, dosent make that much difference noisewise IMO and if its soaked you'll be amazed how heavy it is with all that water in it
Not sure how your drain channels are but on my RS1600i theres two little holes in the opposite corners at the front which drain down into my sills i think
Get a small watering can, open the sunroof and carefully pour a little water into the recess and see if it drains away. If theyre blocked you can try cleaning them out with a small rod (i used the old rails off a hornby train set, curved ones are the best )
have you tried Hadrian www.carpanels.co.uk for the floor panels? you could cut them out another vehicle if you can find one with zero rust
Does the RS2000 have a vin number stamped in the floor?
