Yeah not those exact discs I cant find the right grade on ebay, without doing a proper search. They feel smooth, kinda like 5000 grade wet and dry sandpaper. He said they were doing a pearlescent purple car when he went in at the time. He told them i'm very fussy with my cars and won't accept it back without looking as it should. He even saw me reject my FRST first time round, which wasn't up to my standard.

 

My old neighbour painted his fence and I had paint splashes all over my Focus

I managed with 2k thinners then claybar, then polish as normal

 

3000 discs Trisac discs will polish back up on a rotary easy enough after defects are flatted out...
Good luck with it, hope whoever does it knows what there doing... Discing and polishing a full car ain't a 5 minute job...

 

Takes the guys at my work around 3 days. 1 person 3 days medium sized car. This is a freshly painted car tho. I'd guess 1 to 1.5 days to do it correctly on Marks car.
Just hope they don't go through. My saff had some muppet do pdr on it by the last owner and they polished though, so i have a patch on the door. which to rectify will need the whole side painted.

 

his insurer won't pay out as it's not an accident. he would need to have public liability insurance or if your lucky you may be able to claim off his house insurance. try talking to the guys at panelcraft in hawksworth and see what they recommend. they may even give you a quote. I do feel that wet and dry will be your only option.

 

We do freshly painted Bentley's a lot quicker than that, but it's done day in day out, so we're tool'd up for doing the job as quick as possible.
I'm not sure I'd want a super flat finish on my car, quite happy with alittle peel, gives you alittle lee way if it ever gets damaged...

 

All depends what finish is required. Most of our cars are full restos and most are over 150k++ cars. A little different to a high end bodyshop. And tbh i dont like a flat finish either and yes as u say its easier to pdr or remove a scratch. Last 2 have been black so even more of a challenge to fit up without damage.

 

I was thinking more along the lines of claiming on your own insurance but giving his personal details to your insurer so their legal department persues him for uninsured losses.

 

I've already spoke to my insurers. They will press his company for all fees, and my excess. I wont pay anything or claim on my own policy, Not worth paying out the excess or losing all those years of NCB.

The disc they're using feels near on smooth as the paintwork on a car so I'm guessing it'll only skim a very fine coat of paint. Then a polish of the 3M products should hopefully bring it back to when I not long bought the car. I only use microfibre cloths to wash the car anyway so theres no many swirls.

 

I thought you only use 3 years per claim that are then restored once they've hammered the other guy? but if the other guys insurance can be liable then that's obviously better.

 

All sorted, just finished up today. Paint is gleaming now its been mopped and waxed.
Took myself about 20 hours. Now to give the interior a full valet.
