It basically liquifies steel fragments to make them easier to remove.

I had a load of angle grinder sparks burnt into one of my cars paint and my mrs used that ironX stuff on it, it turned to a purple liquid that washed off, same for cleaning up steel from brakes on allow wheels.
Seems to work really well.

Ye? Clever stuff, hows it manage to dissolve the ferrous particles but not damage paint?! Might give that a try then, i live next to a railway embankment and our cars get quite a bit off what i would assume is fallout off it

I recently Iron-X'd my series 1, It's been freshly painted a year ago and hasn't been on the road since, However it has been in an environment where metal has been ground, but I always made sure it was well away from any metal filings, clearly never far away enough

I'll let the pics speak for themselfs:

Practically the whole car was like this

You use Iron-X before clay barring, can be used on alloy wheels also.

does it work as an alloy wheel general cleaner or is it just for removing these metal particles?

No it's not a cleaner, it's to remove contaminants (I.e. the metal particles) use Bilberry cleaner on your wheels. It's pretty much the best safe cleaner to use.

I've used bilberry, don't really rate it that much to be honest. Cos I'm a bit of a lazy bastard I just want something I can spray on and rinse off, job jobbed. Not really found the bilberry does any more than ordinary soap and water.

That's exactly the stuff I'm trying to remove from my wheels, bits that get stuk in the corners of the spokes that just don't shift. Looks like I'll give this stuff a go

I bought the purple rain stuff (just like iron-X) from autobrite. Only thing is it stinks like fart gas/rotten eggs

Here is what its like in action

One dirty wheel

Sprayed on and left for 15 mins

Then scrub with a soft brush

Then rinse

Sealed with poor boys

Then went out and finished the other 3 wheels
