The £30 and under wax sector is crammed with some great products - my recommendations would be any of the following:-

Collinite 476s (super durable for winter)
Collinite 915 (as above and great on dark colours)
Poorboys Natty's 'Red' (what I use)
Victorias Concours (not the most durable but looks great and easy to use)
Chemical Guys 5050 (new upgraded formula)
Clearkote Moose wax (liquid / cream wax which looks stunning on red cars)
Autoglym HD Wax (not tried myself, but I know many who have on detailing world)
and if you can stretch a bit more either Dodo Juice Blue Velvet or Purple Haze, depending on whether you prefer a hard or soft paste wax

Try Tim at www.cleanyourcar.co.uk for most of the above

as above stick with tim at cyc!!!

and out of the top i would use on your motor is a really good glaze like cheroke red moose and then go to a sealant like chemical guys mirror finsh and top of with vic concours as said above not the most durable but looks amazing on darker colours!!

but if you wanted super durabilty i would go for collinte 476s over the vic concours!

hope thats helps a wee bit lol

In the grander scheme of things, neither Meguiars or AutoGlym are @ the top end of the market.

They are just more "commericalised".

I have some of both products, along with lots of other manufacturers.

AutoGlym went well down the list in recent times as other manufacturers just simply produced better products. I have most of theire products somewhere within my range.

However, the High Definition Wax is the start of their revival. They produced this product in conjunction with the lads over @ DetailingWorld as they were being slated over there. I got one of the first "packs" of HD wax and it is still going now. In the beginning, there was something like a 5 week wait to get hold of the product as the professionals over @ DetailingWorld deemed it of such quality that everyone was putting orders in.

@ the end of the day, most of it is personal opinion and different paints. For example, I do not rate the Megs. 3-stage, prefering only the 3rd stage as I believe that other products do the 1st and 2nd stages better.

Another product that you could try, which is very good as a wax is the Bilt Hamber AutoBalm. Very good product, although it does take some time to apply and remove The results speak for themselves really.

I do remember going to one of the DW "open days" and watching the demonstration on 2 different waxes applied to the same vehicle by the same person, one per side. One wax costs about £12 and the other around £140. The £12 wax came out better

Id get any of the ones in bold, but as above they are all better than Autogylm and dont cost anymore, plus i can vouch for cleanyourcar, ive bought several items off them and got a very fast service every time, i get all my car cleaning stuff off there now

If your using AG for shampoo aswell then id give some of this a try http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washin.../prod_144.html its awsome stuff, doesnt leave any water marks, and makes the car look like its been waxed

Don't tar all Autoglym's products with the same brush though - granted most of their range are far bettered by other specialist detailing brands these days (and I could write a book on describing them tbh, as I'm one of the top posters on the detailing world website (same username as on here) and this would be my 'Mastermind' specialist subject lol!).
The stand out product being Super Resin Polish which is widely regarded amongst the detailing community as one of, if not the best, AIO products and used in the correct way (which is not how 90% of people use it, incidentally ), it's a superb by hand an even better by machine application.
The HD wax is another of their better products, although I'd go for one of the other waxes I listed if it were my money.
Their 'Aqua wax' / 'Express Wax' (trade version) is also a great product for what it is and compares very favourably with Duragloss's identically named product in the quick top up/wet application wax sector.

A similar thing could be said of Meguiars as well - their 'consumer range' that Halfrauds stock aren't the best products in their respective sectors either (especially the 'water magnet' drying towel), but their pro ranges are amongst the top in their fields. For eg. #83 and #80 machine polishes which still have a great following despite the emergence in the last few years of the like of Menzerna. Their #16 and #26 paste waxes are also well regarded and so is Last Touch QD spray and their new Ultimate Quick Detailer.
It's like a lot of things, you have to look a little deeper than what the likes of Halfrauds serve up to find the better products.

Thats the problem isnt it, joe public walks into his/her local halfords because " i need some car wash, but good stuff", so they will most likey walk about with Autoglym or Meguiars, which as you say isnt bad, but easily beaten by online products such as the above for the same price

At this time of year, Collinite 476s

During the summer try Poorboys Natty's Blue or if want to spend a bit more, try a Dodo Juice wax.

Next step up from that would be Zymol Concours which looks fantastic on Pepper Red, but is £164 a pot

Collinite 476s looks great though and is so durable for the winter months, all for about £15 from www.cleanyourcar.co.uk

Zaino is better than all of the above all day long. Collinite comes second.

All IMO ofcourse.

Zaino is a superb range of products, I'd fully agree, but it's still horses for courses though, isn't it? On clear coats Zaino excells and really gives excellent depth of gloss to the finish and still preserves the flake of the metallic, but imo. on darker colour solid paints, especially black and red, a good carnauba wax gives a touch of 'warmth' and glow to the paint that sealants don't offer.

Anyone interested in the Zaino range might also consider the Duragloss products as well, as recent reviews and comparison tests have shown them to be very capable alongside Zaino.

Also watch out for a product called 1000p High Temp paste sealant from Finish Kare, which is very highly rated by those currently trialling it - it compares with the Collinites for durability but is much easier to use. Also, as it's name suggests (being high temp resistant), it's a superb wheel sealant as well so would remove the need to have a dedicated product such as Poorboys Wheel Sealant or Swissvax Autobahn for eg.

What's that, Brian - your own home brew? (been melting waxes in a pot over the hob and creating a hybrid?) Only messing, mate, just a bit confused by the dual brand description

I really like Poorboy's Nattys waxes and am using the 'Red' myself at the moment until I get my hands some of that Finish Kare 1000P.

I don't agree with you there. I have most of the canauba waxes on the market and Zaino still wipes the floor with nearly all of them.

As you said, horses for courses and all that.
