Default Meguiars 3 Stage system

Just washed and gave the car its first polish.

Its ash black and the roof was really bad with blemishing

Must say I am very impressed, will need a couple more goes.

Has anybody else had any experience with this?

Loving the rain drops on its now though

Megs 3 stage is a very good base to start from and will give good results on pretty much all paint finishes.

However there are much better products out there for similar money. Just depends on how far you want to go

As Frayz said, you'll get a decent, if limited, finish from Megs 3 stage. It's okay for beginners, but you can get much better, indivdual products if you look about. This especially applies to the third stage, which is poor compared to other finishing waxes. Another problem is that none of the stages have any physical cut (stage 1 is a chemical cleaner), so if you need this, you won't get the finish you need.

As for what's better - well, that depends on the colour of the car, and exactly how good you want it to be. You'll need more than three stages for the best finish however...

so, for a red car what do you suggest as good, like really good. regardless of amount of stages and within reason, price.

just after suggestions as nothing looks better than a perfectly polished red

Ford Reds are best with:

Clay;

Clearkote Vanilla Moose Glaze (ignore the name, it's a polish), or AG SRP as the polishing stage - the VMG is recommended as it has slightly more cut;

Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze - the best glaze by far, which richens and wettens the shine;

Seal with Poorboy's EX-P;

Finish wax with ClearKote Carnuaba Moose Wax or P21s Concours wax - i'd probably go with the Clearkote on radiant red, it's what i use, works excellently on red, and compliments the other products

Can you suggest a good system for ford Ash black.

Although its much better with a polish, and looks really good after a quick downpour there are still quite a few whitey patches on the roof and bonnet.

Will try and get pics.

Do you mean patches that reflect light - i.e. swirling? The only way you'll effectively remove these from ash black is via machine polishing.

You have a colour that would look great polished right up One thing i can't tell from the small pictures in your signature - does your colour have a lot of flake? That would dictate what products would be best for what is espentially quite a dark colour

After polishing, you should definately glaze the car. This will richen and deepen your shine.

This must be sealed in, and here you have a choice. You can use Poorboy's EX-P for a bright finish, and to emphasise what flake you have. However, like you have said, it doesn't look like you have a great deal of flake. Therefore you may be better to go for Poorboy's EX, which will mute what flake is present, and product a deep, glossy finish.

Top that with a finishing wax - Natty's Blue in your case - and you'll have an excellent looking purple escort with a deep wet shine

Where can all these good products be found ?
I used megs 3 step on my black RS2K and it came up lovely but took 2 of us 4 hours to do and then i didnt want to drive it too fast because of the fly squats .
I dont mind paying out for a good polish so long as i get good results .

It will still take a long time to do, because of all the stages; a good finish doesn't come quickly. You will be able to improve on your 3 step finish if you want to though

If your car hasn't been clayed before, or hasn't been clayed recently, then it would be wise to do this stage first - it prepares the paintwork so all the following stages work to the best of their ability.

If you're interested, i might be able to sort some products for you
