Default Can you play 4K youtube videos without lag?

As title really? now im not testing on the most powerful laptop out there(infact its more the lower end now probably, but we have a good solid 20mb connection yet the video is laggy, the loading bar climbs up no problem its just the playback, ive done a google and other people say they have got high end machines with 8-10GB ram etc and it still lags, they say its something to do with Java/flash not being able to handle 4K on the fly properly.

Just wondered is there anyone on here who can watch a 4K video on youtube smoothly with no lag? i know a few of you have high end computers and stupidly fast broadband lol.

I had never heard of 4k Youtube until reading this, so I did a quick search and found this video

And it plays perfectly on my machine, far from high end, internet is 42 meg Sky fibre,

if you want me to try a different video link it up and i will try that if it helps

Yeah it says 4K in the title of the video but did you change the quality setting manually to 4K quality? I'm only asking as you didn't know what 4K was so there's a chance you just clicked on it and let it play, in which case it won't be 4K unless you've changed the default setting.

I didnt when I 1st replied. But then I remembered about having to change for HD and stuff and went back and tried again, and it plays lovely, watched it a few times too, as the effects on the video are amazing

Oh right if it says 4k on the quality setting and it's playing without lagging/stopping then it must be down to my internet.

Thanks for replying and checking

If you can buffer it, and it still lags, it's not your internet connection. I can load it up fine, but at 4k, I get frame drops. Fine at 720, 1080, and 1440 HD res, but at 4k it's "catching". Not surprising considering I'm using a 6 year old MacBook with a gfx card that was never designed for 4k (native res of 1440)

Sounds like mine Thrush, 720/1080/1440 is ok but not 4K. Our laptop is a Acer windows machine probably around 5-6 years old aswell. I just never thought it would struggle. Oh well it's not like you can see any difference unless you have a 4k screen anyway.

I'm just wondering what the guy is running above as he said it's ok on his computer.

Only place I can watch 4K is on my 4K TV. I have the GoPro Hero 5 but cannot watch or edit videos on either 1 of my laptops (i5). The video above plays fine, no problems but other 4K youtube vids don't so it's hit and miss but mainly miss!! Heard you need an i7 processor minimum and loads of RAM.....Haven't done too much looking but any suggestions?

Best youtube 4K videos are these IMO, Around the world in 4K:

Works ok on mine but I have very fast broadband. My sky Q is outputting everything in 4k now on UHD tv and through Arcam processor...it almost looks 3d at times.

You mean buffering not lag right? If it's buffering then the problem is the speed of your internet connection.. if the video is lagging then the problem is within the hardware.
