Default Computer geeks ????

have a prob with my laptop maybe someone could shed some light on ?????

Trying to get a cable working for my diagnostics on my bmw and after loading the cable driver I need to go into device manager and change settings in com/lpt ports but cant or lappy wont show that tab for some reason ???? after plugging cable in as instructed. picks up my external mouse straight away so I don't know whether it a prob with pc or cable ?? have tried it on another borrowed lappy and the tab seems to be there

Any ideas guys ????

sometimes COM ports are disabled in the BIOS, go in there and check at boot up

why do you need to change the com port it is on ?

Coms only really go from one to four , i would suspect its either 1 or 3. Can you set the BMW software to look on that com port?

i can't explain it any more basic than that, that is basic. you need to go into your BIOS (the bit that loads up when you power on before windows starts) and check the settings.

and no, that would not affect the mouse driver (USB), they are completely different things.

Not sure wot ya mean by this mate but basically the cable is not being recognised by the laptop at all when I plug it in so the com.lpt tab I need to go into to change settings for it isn't even there

did you follow the instructions exactly? as some require you to put the driver software in before plugging the cable in for the first time and some require the cable to be plugged in first.
