PC Problem - help!
Got a strange problem with the pc, I can log onto and view any sites that are in my favourites but if I try and open up a new browser ie Google to search the net it just keeps saying page cannot be displayed
Also for some reason when I log off the pc and then turn it back on, it wont remember any of my log in info on any of the forums I use.
Oh and
for some reson the @ key is where the 2 is and the " key is where the @ is meant to be - WTF

The @ key is most likely your PC is setup with an American keyboard, you can go into the control panel the region/language and change it
The browser showing you your favourites but nothing else could be the page is cached so it's not necerrily the current web page, the cannot connect thing could be 100 different things, try restarting the router, give it a couple of minutes then restart the PC, it could be a virus/malware, get somone to put a copy of "malware bytes" on a CD/memory stock for you and install it then do a full scan of the PC

ok. try this.. sometimes happends when you fail to get web pages.. ( Win7 )
goto tools/internet options. goto connections tab, LAN settings, make sure the only thing ticked is the Automatic Detect Configuration. If you have any numbers in the proxy server box delete them. only thing you need ticked is as said. Some secure sites will change the Auto configure and put proxy numbers in place, yu just need to change it back.

I have no idea, if I change my homepage to msn it works but if I change it to google it doesn't.
BUT even when the homepage (as msn) works, if I try and do a search on the net it still keeps coming up with page cannot be displayed.

download microsoft security essentials (free) from microsofts website... and do a scan.
also you could try accessing google via ip and see if that works...
alternativly try a different browser such as firefox or google chrome see if the issue persists.

Everything was working fine the other day, the only thing i can remember doing was clicking this green dot in the right hand side lower corner but i dont know what it was for and i cant find it now as i didn't know what it was for in the first place (if that makes sense)

AVG anti virus, I assume the firewall would be the same? It's really strange as it lets me go onto any sites that are saved in my favourites but it wont let me open up a new browser
I've tried to run combofix but it wouldn't run as I had avg, so I've uninstalled AVG but now it's saying it wont run as I have Norton 360? I've searched the machine for Norton and I don't have it.... Confused.com!
Ok, I've just tried to start my pc in safe mode F8 and i clicked on safe mode then on safe mode with network then on safe mode with command prompt but all I got after each one was a blue screen saying if this is the first time i've seen this page check my system for viruses but it didn't give me any option to move any further with it
Thats a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) which may possibly a hardware issue, although it does not explain why it boots correctly under "Normal" mode.
Reason being is in safe mode only the bare minimum of drivers are loaded to boot the system, so it would be the reverse if this was a problem, i.e. not booting normally.
There is no way anyone can even get an indication as to what this relates to without further specific information, at the bottom there is a line of text and also an error code which can be used to isolate to a specific error.
I have seen the same issue before re your web browsing on customer machine's before, it could be a result of virus etc giving bogus web server DNS entries for those sites.
Basically DNS is what resolves the domain name you know of, i.e. google.com to it's IP address, which is whats actually used for communication.
This is easy to fix IF you know what you are doing, otherwise it can be tricky to resolve, let me know if you have no luck and I will tell you.

As I say it's impossible to say about the BSOD without more info as there are so many things it could be!
Re the sites, ping one of the affected ones, i.e. google.com
When you do so you should get a reply with a address with four sets of numbers, seperated by a full stop.
What are these numbers (IP address)?
To do so just open up "Command prompt" and type ping domainname.com
