When I reinstalled my OS (win98SE) it asked me to input my name and also a password so I did.
Anyway I guess what that was for was for startup and it created a user account in my name and before it fully boots up I have to enter password and then it loads....
It never used to do this before.
Also in the START menu, next to SHUT DOWN it has LOG OFF and then my name, whereas before it only had LOG OFF.....
How do I delete this user account so it basically don't have one (like a shared open PC) so it just boots up normally without asking for passwords etc.....?
Cos I often like to switch it on and then bugger off to do summat then when I come back I have to enter the password and wait for the fooker to load fully and I'm an impatient bastid who don't wanna do that

D'OH! If I had clocked onto that, then thats what I would have done
But cos I put a name in and a password then thats why it asks me to log in everytime (and has "LOG OFF XXXXXXXXX" in the start menu when it used ot just have "LOG OFF")
THing is I have no idea how to edit the profile now, only thing I seem to be able to do is add new users, not delet or edit old ones

Just done a new install of Win98 which is how I ended up with it like this - sure as fuck don't wanna format and re-install again!!!!!!
When you do a fresh install of 98, and the enter password screen appears, just press escape and you won't be asked for it again, same as when presented with the windows password screen, pressing escape just bypasses it

xpack - my password bit was already set to that, so no joy there, and the second bit you posted I don't have - maybe using a different O/S to me?
Dan - I REEEEEEEEEEEEALLY don't wanna have to re-install Windows again, had enough greif last time

Ok, I understand what you are saying, you don't want the username etc, the only way round this, is to install a program called tweak ui, which can be found on the windows 98 cd-rom. I think it's under plus, and power tools, but i'm not sure. In that program, you can input the username / password and it'll boot into windows normally without you having to do anything.
Not very secure mind you
