Default pc wont boot up

My mums pc crashed on her the other day and wont boot up again. Its a packard bell. She bought it new just over a year ago from pc world and she never got a proper boot up disc with it, she was told to make her own and went through the steps of the instructions to do her own but it isnt working. When it does actually try to boot up it says that it cant detect port one, then another time it says port one detected but no harddrive can be found, or no windows files can be found. Has anyone had anything like this before or have an idea what to do? Thanks

Download ERD Commander, think its available free from Microsoft, or it was last time i downloaded it. Should be all you need.

Hi,
Any number of possibilities.
Has someone been inside the computer to modify something? A cable or wire may have been left disconnected.
The power supply may be failing.
The hard disc may be failing.
The BIOS settings may have been disturbed.
It sounds like getting an expert in to view it before you lose all your data
