Focusv8 - when i do what you say... it brings up all 1152 music files..... but then i click on the 'go to folder option' next to each file, it brings me up the message:

The following file cannot be found:
C:\Users\Maria\Desktop\Music!
This may happen if you deleted or moved the file.

Deleting the files and emptying the recycle bin marks the areas that were used as FREE in the TOC (Table of contents) or index to the disk. The actual files are still on the disk until something overwrites them - You downloaded a file to try and get them back but where did it go? By the sound of it into areas that were marked as FREE in the disk index! End of story and files.

Cheers, TommysKeeper

Ria, after you have done the search for the files with the .mp3 extention, you say you can see all 1152 music files right? But can't go to the folder cos it doesn't exist?

Can you try something for me. Do the search again, and when it lists the mp3's, can you right click on one, select COPY and then go to your desktop and paste it. Let me know if it pastes onto the desktop. If it does, try playing it.

If it pastes, and plays, go back, highlight ALL 1152 mp3's, copy them all, then paste them into a new folder on the desktop (lets call it "Maria Music She Thought She Lost" shall we? ) and see if they all play.

If they do, hurrah. If you can't do any of the above, sorry hun, I'm all out of idea's....

alsp i wouldnt try recovering any data of that drive while the o/s is still being used from it, best bet remove hard disk and if your really desperate i can try and recover the data for you, no charge

RANJ - I'm guessing the music is from her iPhone, and I've already sorted her with a program to copy the music off it.

As for iTunes converting to AAC, only if you set this option in iTunes preferences. Otherwise it won't and uses the existing MP3's...

Maria,
Just a side comment...
If you have deleted your files then as they have been marked as free space, any recovery program you use has less chance of getting them back the longer your PC is in use as windows continuously writes and moves files around !

I bit the bullet and paid for this when I lost all my photos/music etc. It found them all, but the odd one or two seemed corrupt.

Ria - I thought that would probably be the case - I guessed you wouldn't be daft enough to simply not copy them back if you had an external backup on your iPhone

But did you try what I posted above?
