Default Bluray writers

Im wanting to backup a shit load of photos (all 15mb each and got 100's of them) onto disc and a regular dvd is going to get full in no time. Whats the score with blu ray, what do I need hardware wise (any examples would be great) and what discs? What is the greatest capacity on one of these things? Any help would be champion, tried google but got a lot of shit that doesnt help, just wondering if anyone has first hand experience.
thanks
Steve

Ive already got a second internal hard drive working as a backup but Id like to be able to have a few discs I could put away and catalogue the images at the same time. Last year alone i took 3600 pics so 54gig approx, so two blu ray discs to hold them would be great. Cheers Eagle, Id seen that one on CCL and just wasnt sure if it was what I needed.
