Does your pc load up without it plugged in?

You haven't removed any jumpers out the back of the dvd drive have you? Sure your using the same ide cable that was plugged in before?

Load up your bios (press delete when your pc loads up) with them plugged in and see what it lists as primary master/slave and secondary master/slave.

Not big problem mate, you've just got a setting wrong somewhere

For the jumpers, look at the back of the drive where the cables go in. You should see a little black block sticking on some small pins. Have a look what ones its on

the first cable you have shown is just the power (the coloured one) so use either.
The second cable (ribbon cable) is the one you need to make sure if the same as before. It shouldn't really matter unless you are on cable select, dont worry about the terminology, just try using either of those connectors, do both fail?

You with have 8/10 pins on the top/back of each unit. There should be a diagram on how to make them master + Slave as they both won't work until they are on different settings! It's a little black piece of plastic with a metal connector inside. They slide over 2 of the 8/10 pins to tell the motherboard what's going on... They both have to be different. Just look at the sticker on the unit its-self..

Master is always the hard-drive! Slave can be anything.... 2nd hard drive dvd drive anything...!

Remember to change the settings in BIOS when you boot up to tell the computer what is what..
