PC Value help pls
Right, well i've decided enough is enough, im guna stop messing about with the 3 machines im running at the moment, im guna sell the lot, and build myself a brand spanking new pc
Only prob is, i aint got a clue what mine are worth.
PC 1

Fujitsu Seimens Scaleo P (The case is the same as the above, however mine DOES NOT have a floppy disc, and the card reader is better)
3.4 P4
1 gb memory (PC3200, 2 * 512), has 2 free slots for further upgrade
ATI X1300 256mb graphics card (PCI express)
1 * 250GB SATA HDD
1 * Dual layer DVD rewriter (Does + and -) also burns CD's as your would expect
1 * DVD Player / cd rewiter
Built in WIFI
Has 6 * usb's in total, fire wire, optical out, serial port, 10/100 ethernet etc etc
Windows Vista Ultimate + XP pro both installed in dual boot, with both license codes
PC 2

Same case as above (cost about 170quid new
)
AMD Athlon 3200 (64bit, socket 754)
1GB memory (PC3200 2 * 512'S)
ATI 9600 XT 256mb graphics card (AGP)
1 * 160gb SATA HDD
1 * Dual layer DVD writer (also burns cd's of course)
Netgear wireless card (PCI)
3.5" floppy drive
Has 6 * usb's, firewire, 10/100 ethernet port etc etc
XP pro installed with lisence code
PC 3
I cant find a pic, and cant be arsed to take one right now lol, but its a Mesh case, is just a simple black case, dont stand out as looking that nice, but is'nt ugly.
AMD Sempron 2800 (64bit - 1.6GHz)
512mb memory (PC3200, 1 * 512)
Rage 128 Ultra AGP graphics card
1 * 120GB ata HDD
DVD Player / cd writer
10/100/1000 PCI ethernet port
4 USB's (Might be 6
)
Solaris 10 (8/07) installed, however will install XP pro (with lisence code), or Vista Ultimate (with aero / sidebar etc etc all turned off), but i warn you now, you would be best of with XP IMO.
Any idea on value's for the above really would be appriciated.
Many Thanks
Peter

As you know older pc's are not worth alot, it is hard to put a price on them really but id say computer 2 was worth the most, you could probably get Ł200-300 for it, the others maybe 200 ish.
Thats being realistic though, like if someone who knew about pc's wanted a cheap one just to surf the net etc, thats what they would pay, if some old granny wanted a pc they would pay more, bit like cars i guess.
If you want help sourcing some parts for a new pc just give me a pm

Cheers for that
I had in my head 175-200 for pc 1, 200 ish for pc 2, and 100-150 for pc 3, so i think i'll try that and see what happens.
Reference my new spec, i think im pretty much sorted tbh, just gota decide on a graphics card.
Do i go the full hog and get an 8800gtx as i would like, or do i buy a 1950 pro to last me another 6 months, and wait for the nvidia prices to fall. Hmmmm

Those prices were like top whack, but if you want rid the prices you had in mind should be spot on
As for graphics card you want something like this mate http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=691920
Its meant to be on par with the GTX, its smaller(doesnt take up 2 pci slots) and also uses less power AND its half the price
Out of interest whats the rest of the specs?

The spec's not 100% decided as yet, its all a bit up in the air, but as it stands:
Case + PSU - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128045
CPU (I know this is the OEM, so i'll pick a suitable heatsink, not decided on as yet) - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131823
Memory (As im going to stay on 32 bit Vista, no point in going upto 4GB) - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755
Motherboard (Would really like something with onboard wireless, but not a deciding factor for me) - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126014
DVD drives (Not fussed about lightscribe bollocks, and blueray is over budget at the moment) - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134531
Graphics card - Undecided, thinking its either going to be an 8800 series card, or maybe an X1950 pro to keep me going another 6 months
Thats all the major bits, not decided on HDD's as yet, i have 4 * 250gb sata drives (7200rpm / 16mb cache) that i can just put straight in, but exploring faster options, raptors are too expensive IMO, so might look at getting some 15k SCSI or 15k SAS drives with a suitable pci controller, TBH i'll prob wait till i can get a couple of 146GB 15K SAS discs from work on the cheap / blag
What ya reckon?
Suggestions are welcome, and i'll shop around and find each component at the cheapest place, just using ebuyer as an example

The spec of your new PC looks ok, but I would go for a Mobo based on the Intel p35 chipset as they support the new 45nm CPU's. That board you have picked is an sli board and priced accordingly. Unless you want to use 2x graphic cards I wouldnt bother. Incidently ATI is releasing a new dual core graphic card in January which will almost certainly thump the 8800.
I recently built a similar spec system to yours:
I went for q6600 (no brainer)
2 GB 800mhz Ram
Gigabyte P35 mobo went for this as it supports 45nm and has 8 sata 2 ports.

After chatting with GTi, i think im guna go for an 8800 GT, cant find anywhere actually shipping them at the moment though
Seems a good option for price vs performance
Im deff guna go for an SLI board though, as it means i can easily add another 8800 GT later down the line if i fancy it (can afford it).
I'll see if i can find a suitable motherboard with SLI support and a p35 chipset though (if this is possible ?
) as that may come in handy for the future
Can anyone suggest / find me a suitable motherboard?
It needs to
Support dual / Quad core
Socket 775
SLI support
Atleast 6 sata ports, some external ones would be nice
Raid 0, 1, 5 (just raid 1 would do)
Wifi (ideally)
SLI support
Hardware overclocking (in the bios)
support 8GB
Gigabit ethernet
Plenty of USB ports
ALSO, as an after thought, this new ATI card, any details on it?, rough guide price?
Would it work if i bought an X1950 pro now to keep me going, and then add a newer ATI card aswell in crossfire, is this an option?
Will the new series ATI work in crossfire with the X1950 range?

And i still think you'd be wasting money anyway, as you said your going to buying a 1950pro for nearly Ł100 only to throw it away in a month or two in favour of a proper graphics card
Just my 2 cents
You do realise that even 2 x8800gt graphic cards struggle to play crysis at the native res of most 20"+ monitors? There is a new nvidia card based on G92 coming shortly and the ATI Dual Core 3870x2.
A single 8800GT runs crysis at 6.5 frames per second at 1600x1200 with the quality set to high, note there is two quality levels above this!
It may be worth waiting a tad to see whats going on as you could end up wasting a lot of money on the wrong graphic card.

What about this mobo, has all the features you need bar the built in wireless and is future proof with 45nm support.

Tonyk im sorry but your wrong, have you actually played Crysis on your pc?(or any pc for that matter)? Ive got a 7950GT 512MB, i played Crysis on medium settings on my 19" widescreen, it was playable with hardly any slow down.
A 8800GT is much more powerful than my card

Here is a link from a well respected site:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/NVIDIA...w-29719-8.html
They used the following spec system which is higher than the system the user is aiming for.
Test setup:
Asus P5K3 Deluxe
Intel Core 2 Quad QX6850 (FYI: similar to the E6850 in games)
Kingston 2 x 1024 MB setup in DDR-3 800 6-6-6-15-21
Hitachi T7K250 250 GB
DVD Player Asus 12x
Tagan U15 Easycon 530 W
Windows XP Pro
ForceWare 167.37 (all GeForce all games except Crysis)
ForceWare 169.01 (all GeForce under Crysis)
Catalyst 7.10 WHQL
I only have a 2600xt card as I tend to play games on my Xbox on the big screen, so I havent personally played crysis. I think the TC should wait 2 weeks to see what the new G92 chips are like or wait till January for the 3870x2 reports.
