Default uTorrent questions!!!!!

Not illegal so don't delete it!

I made a torrent from files on my PC to send to a mate, to do some testing for speed (to see if I could send him files faster using uTorrent than we currently do via FTP)

First test was a 2.5mb file - took him 26mins to download it

Second test I sent a 118mb file - took him 2hrs 11mins (speed he saw was 15.7kb/s average)

To role reverse he sent me a 10mb file - this took me 2.5hrs to download and I never saw over 1.0kb/s

I don't get it... My connection is Virgin Cable, 2mb downstream (speedtest.net tells me my downstream is 1902 down and upstream is 192kb/s) and most torrents, well seeded, will see between 100 and 200kb/s (if not using the PC for any other internet activity I can see over 250kb/s)

his connection is ADSL, Tiscali, 8mb downstream (don't know what that is upstream, but typically ADSL upstream is better than cable, and an 8mb line should have a better upspeed than 2mb aswell...

why did it take so long to download his 10mb file?

the problem here it that the 10mb file is to small to get full use of the dl/ul connection you have, as the speed cant stabilise it self.
therefore you have to send a much larger file, as you did the second time.
the best is to test with a file that it 300mb ++ and see what you get then

I don't buy that, as I originally sent a 2.5mb file and he got that in 26mins. So by logic I should be able to get a 10mb file from him in only slightly longer time frame. I can't see why it took longer to recieve a 10mb file from him than it too for him to receive a 118mb file from me....

well, that is a bunch of things that depends on

example:

Is upload speed is very slow
he was downloading (yes that effects your upload speed)
he was using his computer heavily/moderate
His ISP has restrictions on upload with bit torrent

1) Not that I know off. It should be higher than mine thats for sure.
2) No, PC was left on overnight purely to do this, no other downloading or anything in progress
3) See above
4) Not that we have found so far, as other torrents work fine (downstream)
