Hi all

I am getting an ex demo Compaq Presario PC with XP, an AMD Athlon 3500+ with 320GB HD (2 x 160) & 1GB RAM for £200.

It comes with a DVD-RW and spare expansion bay. On my current HP PC of the same design series but 2660 Celeron I had a second DVD-RW fitted so I can copy directly disc to disc instead of via the PC.

Fitting the second drive is easy enough but how do you tell the PC it has an extra drive as last time I tried the PC got confused and on the eject command would eject BOTH DVD trays!

I believe you have to make one a slave but not sure how?

On the back of the drive, there will be the jumper, a bit of plastic covering 2 pins. Simply remove and place the "jumper" to cover the 2 pins which will set the device as a slave.

 

you could also put the jumper to cable select.. then the cable would select for you as long they are on the same cable




usually the cd rom is at cable select from default
