great choice, I have one myself too but the BFG 3DFuzion version. I think the XFX is probably the best one in the range as they generally clock their cards faster than anyone else

Download ATI tool and it will monitor your temperatures on the card

I have a feeling my xfx nvidia 6800gs is fucked, sitting at idle at the moment it's on 80 degrees

you should already have one that comes with the graphics card on the CD. Will be in the Nvidia control panel.

also about your temperature mate, take the card out and clean the heatsink and fan. will probably be full of dust not allowing the fan to spin freely and not dissipating the heat properly.

The card is brand new mate, or at least i think it is? 48c is fine mate anyway.
Especially since you probably dont have the best case for cooling?
My 7950GT 512mb beast is around 50-52 idle in my warmish bedroom and my case has about 5 fans in it.
Start worrying when it says 70c when your not gaming.

Thing is, i shifted 4 hard drives out the machine, and had a bit of a move around and it dropped from 90 degrees to about 70 odd, I'm possibly gonna try a bigger cooler on it, if no joy then I will buy another one thing that's pissed me off the most is I can't send it back

the highest I've ever got my gfx to go up to was on the really warm day a few days ago playing FEAR on one of the scenes towards the end. went up to 38 degrees on my tower temp monitor which translates roughly to 55-60 degrees and thats at full load. Never seen it go more than that ever and FEAR is played at a very high spec too. My idle is generally around 38-42 degrees

this a great cooler and if you don't want to spend that much

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=57&subcat=787

You got nothing to lose this way and you can also sell it if you want or put it on your new card

I looked at those too but I had doubts as to whether they would fit that's why I didn't suggest those. They mention the 6xxx series not the 7xxx series whereas the others mention the 7600 series explicitly.

52 is fine mate, a 4-5 degrees jump after gaming isnt much.

So if those tears mean" fuck my new card is running HOT", no it isnt, its fine

might be causing the card to bottleneck under load. What settings does TDU run on? Also what's the rest of your system spec?

I've clocked FEAR and now I'm bored Can anyone suggest any good FPS games or racing games. I think NFSU2 was the best by far and the others havent even come close to it. Anyone know of any pukka racers like gran turismo or the likes of toca or rallying?

I've also played serious sam 1 and 2 and found those quite good for fps. apparently HL2 is one to definitely get but i miss my racing and the noise from nfsu2. want another racer!

go to the hardware list (device manager). Find the gfx card and move it completely. Reboot and have the newest updated drivers to disk and then go from there.

also check pci-e frequency in bios. set to 100mhz if not on auto and also pci-e overvoltage to 0.1V

override it if its on auto. the rest you can leave on auto if you want

wtf thats seriously not common mate, loads of people are happy with these cards plus ive never had any issues with my Nvidia cards, you must have just got a bad card or something
If the card is at fault you will just have to take it back and let them do there thing and replace it

thign is though, I don't think its a dodgy card as it hasnt given in just stuck on low res. I had that problem before and it was a corrupted driver and also windows being retarded. so i simply wiped it off the system and let xp detect it from afresh and it worked. but the company are going to test it blah blah then get it replaced. but now you have taken it out mate its off the machine and the 5200 is running now so maybe putting it back now the issue may be solved as its going in like a fresh card. again make sure you have the exact drivers for it genuine ones and th emost updated.

Also make sure they are not modded drivers. I downloaded modded drivers for an 8800GTX modded for the 7600 series and supposedly improves fps. got nothing but headache so reverted to genuine nvidia.

try and give more info on the problem mate and will try to help a bit more if I can

Ive always tried drivers that are meant to be optimized and better than the forceware jobs but ive never noticed any difference so i just stick to the WHQL stamped drivers from nvidia, im currently running 93.71, there are some newer ones out but these ones work perfect for my card so ive stuck with them

(just incase anyone is confused when i said WHQL) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHQL

i removed all nvida software from the xp pc ... reinstalled the card directly from the disk that came with it... there is one heatsink on its own that gets bloomin hot..
also the vista pc had an ati card in it, removed al the drivers and installed it, low res works fine, i.e boot up and safe mode, but try to get any decent settings he screen is totally garbled, i could not even log onto windows as it was so messed up
put the 5200 card back in and it worked first time so i guess it is the card

still sounds like a driver problem to me since it works in low res. is there another PC you can test it in. If you get the card RMA'd they are going to test it first so that will tell you if its the card or not.

Best just to RMA then since at least you have a backup card.

ok .. took it back this morning .. bloke asked me what i wanted to do about it .. did i want a new one or my money back ...
thought for a second and asked for the money back ...
no probs he said and refunded my card...
so i then went round the front and got another brand new one for £10 less

have now added another 60mm fan to cover the other heatsink and hopefully that should solve the problem...

brilliant mate. really good news! swift replacement and £10 up!!

Let us know how that one goes. I just hope to god it isn't a corrupted driver

When you install it, install the drivers from the CD first. Even though they are more thank likely out of date, then go to the xfx site and get the latest drivers from here
