Im having trouble understanding why...
I've got one hardrive & 2 towers.. 1 is a P3 (wich im using)
& the other is a AMD Athlon
Athlon.. got it off my mate wich he obviously took his hardrive out & the problem is i go to put my hardrive in from the crappy P3 & it doesnt want to boot
say while you boot a p.c & your tapping F8 that screen comes up & asks me to "safe mode.. etc.." & "start windows from best last known configation"
Ive done all i can & it doesnt boot, soon as i select a choice the tower restarts & it will repeat itself years on end
Any ideas..? i know everythink works fine! but not my hardrive & the AMD put together :S both towers do run windows xp
Massive thanks in advance!

I would assume driver issues due to the vast differences in motherboard design, most P3's use intel chipsets and most AMD Athlons use Via, SiS, Nforce chipsets.
Whatever Althlon you have Slot a, Socket a, Athlon xp, Athlon xpm, Athlon64 I would assume that a simple reinstall with the correct drivers for the motherboard would solve your problem
The processor architecture could be radically different as well depending upon what Athlon it is you have

you're using windows XP which locks it's self out to hardware. if you segnificantly change your PC you have to purchase a new license else you can call them up and inform them of the change and they can give you some sort of code ?
either way (that above is a wooley guess) I'm betting it's an OS problem not a hardware one.
try using knoppix or another live CD to boot your pc with, will prove the hard ware is okay (except HDD)

If it locked you out completely nobody would be aware of the situation or the number that you are required to call to reactivate.
Basically, the hard drive was installed and XP setup on the P3 machine, when you put it into the AMD machine windows will try at first to load the drivers for the P3's hardware.
Just put a new hard drive in the AMD machine and install Windows XP on it

you will have to reinstall your operating system from scratch. when you install a operating system it configures itself too the motherboard, some will work in other machines and some wont.
your best bit is too buy another hard drive(which are cheap as chips) put it in the other machine and transfer all your operating system across using norton ghost, with all your saved work files etc etc make sure you make backup first
