Look no further than Nod32, ive tried about 3-4 different antivirus programmes that people have said are good and none of them were as good as nod32.
Ive been using it for about 7months now and my pc is spot on, its simple to use, and it doesnt slow a pc down at all, oh and it updates everyday, sometimes even twice a day, ive got nothing bad to say about it check out there site http://www.eset.com/

Its not free by the way but nothing worth having comes for free

For firewall ive always used Zonealarm, agian this doesnt slow a pc down and its very good

ok that's all good, only problem I'm having is playing worms armageddon online... I've customised the security options to allow internet connection and added the host address to trusted sites but it still won't allow me to connect.

any ideas??

Theres zonealarm free version, zonealarm pro, and there full internet security with anti virus i think, which one do you have?

Ive got zonealarm pro and normally when it blocks anything ill get a pop up message telling me its blocked something and what it was and it will ask me if i want to allow or deny access, you click allow and all should be ok?
im not too sure because i dont play online games myself but it should be fine if you allow it

By the way have you noticed an improvement in loading times now that your rid of norton? (thats assuming you uninstalled it correctly)

i got internet security

i did some research and found that zone alarm scrambles your IP and the game i want to play needs to pick up the full address to work so i just have to close it while i play....

The net is running a bit slow in places but that could individual websites fault....

thanks for the tips though

Oh right i didnt know it scrambles your ip!

And your anti virus wouldnt effect internet speed, just booting up your pc is where you should notice a speed increase.

Like i said as long as you uninstalled norton properly via add remove programmes, then go into c: and check for any norton folders and delete them

Do something for me, press control alt and delete, at the very bottom of the box how many processes are there? and whats your cpu usage? do that when your not running much, just msn or something

Thats quite good then.

Only reason i asked this was to see if you had lots of crap running in the background as this can slow a pc down aswell, but your cpu is hardly working to do those 3 things which is very good sometimes if a pc has a virus or is running shit then you might not be running anything yet the cpu will read 50-60% usage, not good. Get it now
By the way, zonealarm, nod32, they would be classed as "process", same as things like your web browser and msn, there all classed as a process, you have 46 of these, most of which are things you and me wouldnt understand that windows needs to run and stuff
