right got my pc back from insurance company as i dropped it and it needed fixing etc, anyhow they put a new hard drive in (dunno why as my old one worked fine) and they put windows on again, after having to phone up to get the copy of windows all sorted etc ive now found basic stuff i used to have is not on here, like microsoft works, etc.

ive tried looking for free downloads of this and all ive found is a update for works 8 but it wont install as the basic programme isnt on my machine, anyone know of a place i can get it and also somewhere that i can update all my bits like media player etc?

any help would be great.

also can someone recommend some ram for me.

my new mother board is a elite groupe p4m800pro-m478

mean jack to me and i am running my old ram (it looks like) but i want to upgrade it to 1gb but the book is saying it can have 2 different types of ram.
im not a computer person as such so dont know the best stuff of the rates of ram etc.

im running PC2100-25330 256 ddr 266mhz cl2.5 ( 2 sticks)

but themother board can take the following so the book says

the mother board incorporate the p4m800pro northbridge (nb) abd vt8237 southbrisge (sb) chipsets.
the nb supports a front side bus (FSB) frequencies of 800/533/400 MHz fsb and hyper-threading technology.
the memory controller supports DDR memory DIMM frequencies of 400/333/266 MHz or DDR2 memory DIMM frequencies of 533/400 MHz
it supports 4 DDR sockets with maximum memory of 2gb.


can anyone recommend the best ram i can use for my pc, ive not got much spare cash at mo so the cheaper the better, pref from ebay so i can use what i got in my paypal account

 

I dont think you can get works for free mate have you go onto microsofts site and check for any windows updates though ?

For the lastest media player check out www.filehippo.com and loads of other free programmes if you need them

RAM, you say you only want to use ebay but ive never used it before so i cant help you there but you have all the info you need so why dont you just do a search?

 

think ive sorted the ram thing now.

as for microsoft works, ive got my old hard drive also, could i transfur it from that hard drive to my new one?

 

yeah you could do as long as you have the installer file, its no good copying the contents of the office folder and expecting that to work, gotta have the proper install file.

 

i found a restore cd for micro softworks 6 that came with my pc but it wont install, but i have a produt key so i take it i can download it and use the key code i already got?
