how can i tell what type of ram i got in my pc without opening it up?

Here you go mate http://www.crucial.com/, do an online scan and it will tell you exactly what ram your running, how many sticks you have and how many free slots you have

or you could just go to Start > Control Panel > System

this will pop up a windows that shows you your system including toal RAM and Processor power

then find out what spec your machine is and see if you can upgrade

that scans cool, my ram is ddr and i got two free slots for extra ram

surly there wont/cant be space for more ram than it can handle?

Plus if its something like pc2700 for example, they only go up to 1gb sticks, so if he has 3 slots and his pc can take pc2700, then he will be able to run 3gbs?
