Default CMOS battery low error on bootup, please help!

Running Windows XP home, just started getting this error last week. If I ignore it and startup anyway I go 'back to the future' to September 2002!

Anyone have any idea how to fix/what the issue is?

Ta

Sorry mate, wouldn't have had a clue!

So, are Motherboard batteries generic or are the different depending on the type?

Anywhere online to get them from?

Basically, it's a bigger version of a watch battery m8. Should be able to get one in any electronic's store with a bit of luck. Ideally, open the case up, take the battery off, walk into maplin's etc, with it and say "i need one of these please kind sir". Hand over dough, return home, put battery in, boot up with fingers crossed

yep what dan said, its about the size of a penny and it should be easy to spot when you take the cover off

Ah, righty, ta.

I'll take it apart when I know I can get to a store. At the moment the only info I kind find on my motherboard is a booklet in a drawer titled 'Systemboard M810 Series.' Couldn't find much on google so I think I'll just go battery in hand as you said!

If I take it out will I not lose all my system settings? I'm not sure how critical this is? Do I have to go into setup and note things down?

Thankyou please

Dave

All that'll need doing is the bios clock needing to be set. Power on and press del or f2 to enter setup, and you should be able to change the time.
