Did you ever insure the car? I'm quite interested in the car but what's the insurance company's going to think? and does it need an engineer's report?

I had lengthy conversations with both the DVLA, VOSA and the DoT about this and noone could really shed any light on it. VOSA said that technically there is no reason to fail an SVA (or whatever) if a vehicle has two engines. I mean, what if you put a tiny electric motor on your rear axle - how does that differ to a 800hp v8? It'd be very hard to differentiate.

Ultimately noone could give me a definate "yes its ok" or whatever - however they do have a default reply of "best not to" because they're driving to rid the roads of modified vehicles.

Adding an engine to the back of a car isn't radically changing it, believe it or not. And because of that, you don't need any testing, engineers reports, or anything - but your insurance company may ask for one!!

Can I ask two silly questions?

If its an XR2i on an L reg, that would mean it was originally an 1.8 16v model:

1. Why has it got those silly door strips down the side (cos the 16v never had em fitted and;

2. Why has it got blue bumper inserts?

I am confused......

its had all the hard work done, was built by crazycage of here, he had it running etc. Could be a cheap project for someone only really needs an engine harness to start up i think, may even have that too
