Default Northern/Southern Irish madness

Roughly, what would this car go for in England/Scotland/Wales?

Corolla GT Coupé : AE86 : 1984

1984
Silver over black
125k miles
UK car from new

good bits
Car has been garaged for the last 2 years so no MOT or TAX
previous owner had it for 5 years and drove her every day
Cars totally standard and always has been
interior is in A1 condition and all original,
boot lid in perfect order
in round engine bay is solid
engine & box working as good as new
good oil pressure
starts 1st turn every time
good project for someone as the shell is solid overall & will make a clinker of a car

bad bits
gone in the usual places,
both pockets,
rear arches (need repaired not replaced)
passenger door sill at bottom of b pillar
rear panel below tail lamps have holes
rear 1/4 below window as rust
blow out in standard exhaust

if your after a mint twin cam dont waste our time as this car needs a tidy we have been quoted £800 to have both sides painted and the welding work done and MOT'd so if your not prepared to spend that it's not the car for you!

Esp as its a UK car id not suprised if its up for 3k even as a fucking wreck.

Jap imports worth slightly less, but dunno why, same spec really.

They considered classics, in the UK, Japan, and ESPECIALLY Ireland, so always worth a ton, same as some old Fords etc are here (and on the flipside, why Cossies are considered totally worthless in Europe).

Even a tidy Jap import will be a 5k car in UK or Ire, even if it not special, jus not shagged.

So go on, whas it up for?

its up for £4500, plus then figure around £1000 to put it right. Love the way its described as mint (Apart from the fact that is rotten )

So £5500 for a GT coupe?

There was a guy off here selling a seriously specced Levin for a lot less than that!

A GT Coupe (ie UK model) will always be worth more than a Jap Import Levin or Trueno.

You see plenty of people with real big spec Jap ones putting up requests for a UK model, even tho there no reason barring its an official UK one.
Classics for you innit...

4.5k is a lot and i doubt he will get it, but id not be suprised at all if he gets very near it.

Thats the depressing thing - that car will sell over here for that money. I've seen them advertised for £10K before! Thats a basically standard car as well.

Whats depressing, its the prices they go for, its a classic, classics always go for far more than someone who dont get the classic status would expect them to be worth.

Same as on the SXOC where they were all crying about that RS1800 Mk2 Escort going for 45k on Ebay, and I had to defend it and explain to them spastics that its not worth the 3-5k they said...

Its not the price for that type of car - its the condition and the prices they ask. Most here are shitboxes and are not worth the asking price, but so many country bumpkins want them to 'diff' and 'do circles' in they somehow get sold for silly prices.

I can understand how a real minter would go for £10K, i just can't get my head round how shitters go for that money!

Cause like you said, a 4.5k shitbox can be turned into a 5.5k minter pretty easy

So youve never seen all the ones competing in D1 across the world, and countless rallys and circuit racing?
And often winning against cars with 3 times the power?

If all your mates can do is 1st gear donuts, they shite, not the car

Basically a slightly more modern Mk2 escort with an engine thats a deliberate copy of the legendary Ford Cosworth BDA engine.
And like Mk2 Escorts, have mental potential.

Overpriced for what they are, but thats classics for you.

The 16.5k onewould be McNamaras i guess? Or?

Im no fan of AE86s at all as im not into all this "classic" car bollocks on any car, but ive experience of em (inc driving/owning one) and im realistic about it, unlike above

all the ones winning these rally events, d1 ect. arent the fucked ,rusted examples that are the norm as a road car here, hence the shittyness for your 6000 - 12000

i find it quite suprising that people are willing to question why a mint AE86 is worth so much, but dont question someone who puts his mint rs2000 up for sale at 5k+

both classics and the prices reflect this

(though i think its an ugly bag-o-shite car )

A car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

And as for not knowing what the big deal is about them, drive one and see.
They are a pure raw RWD car, no traction control etc to get in the way, a
and you dont need to go 200mph to have fun in a car.

I have only ever driven a twin cam once and 30mph round a car
with the back end out in the dry! thats why they are worth
so much , a pure giggle every time you drive one ... oh and the sound

i have. no pics of fucked twin cams for obvious reasons. example: came across an 85 twin cam recently jap import, friend of a friend had it light blue over black. burning a fair bit of oil, diff was very bad so he was kicking the fuck out a the clutch to lock it. on one occasion the homemade janspeed came off underneath, was generally fairly slow. and often held on the rev limiter. rear pockets werent great either. asking 11000 cos she was shiny and got 9something

Heres some prices of them in Ireland...
http://search.autotrader.ie/www/cars...63&SUBMIT.y=11

Alan talks in Euros so it seems worse tha it is as they worth a lot less than pounds.

Some of the "facts" on AE86s posted above are still utter dogshit tho

I mean...

shitty 1.6
good at doing 1st gear donuts and nothing else
bad handling, realibility, econmy
all summed up with

ive never been in one
im not a fan of them at all, but ive experience of driving them and living with one (the piece of shit ) and know the above is balls.

over describing a word of mouth car description as 'fact' is blowing it out of proportion. you asked for an example of a shitty twin cam in 6-12k price bracket you got one get over it. theres no such thing as 'fact' in opinions of the condition of old cars. maybe the ones your used to driving and living with are generally better condition english examples which your comparing to the far dodgier example here.
still like to see them donunting

its just another cult 'cool' car, some people like em some dont, when i was at school i used to think these cars are made for oap's

when i saw the black one on the trader from ireland for 10k sterling i thought WTF?! but then again i understand there is enthusiasts out there for these cars

its the same with rs turbo's and cosworths, not every one would would want to pay 15k for a M reg Escort with a big 'whale tail'

i agree with stavros that these dont win at drift competitions, i still cant figure out how people say to me that your car is the worlds best drift car lmao, i get people at uni telling me that, nice bit of attention but utter crap lol

its a fun car, not a lot of power but fun all the same, nicely balanced and fairly light

the UK versions will always fetch more money than the import, cant understand that because id rather buy a car with minimal rust and usually the imports are ok on rust the UK ones are heavily infected with rust

oh and if some one wants a good car to drift in the 200sx's have proven to be good at it
