Default Tappets noisy (hydraulic)

The XR2's engine is a little noisy at the moment and it sounds like the tappets making the sound. Even after the car has been running for about 20 minutes they are still making somewhat of a racket. The tappets on my car are hydraulic, and cannot be adjusted (not that my dad and I know of anyway). I am taking to a garage next week to have the cambelt changed as it really needs changing, even though I doubt that's the source of the problem.
Does anybody have any suggestions on what we could try to either eliminate, or atleast calm down the noise?
Thanks.

dead common for cvh tappets to wear out as most are made of chocolate, usual cure is a new set and oil and filter change

The cam itself would of work hardened over time so just putting a new set of lifters in on an old cam will soon wear out your new lifters & you'll be back to where you started so if your going to replace the lifters put a new cam in at the same time

Bottom line £400 to get it sorted. I would send it to a specialist like Board Bros. in St. John's hill in south London. The lifters are cheap enough but a cam is £500 easy. They may be able to make you one for less or at the very least check it and make it good again (they are very good) either way it's bucks. If you can find one on eBay you could be in luck but it will still set you back the initial £400 hundred as they will have to size up and space all the lifters to fit (not an easy job for a hydraulic one)
Mechanical lifters are good in some respects and you can usually tweak them to get better results than a hydraulic. That's no help to you as you are stuck with what you have but it's helpful to know for the future.

Gonna try an engine flush first, and if that doesn't work guess I will have to change them. Can you still buy CVH tappets after all these years?

Buy a cam kit with some in as like I said if you just change the lifters you'll be changing them again soon after after they've been chewed up by your old cam.

I don't know where matey up tops got his prices from but a cam kit can be had a lot cheaper than what he's suggesting & its a couple of hours job to swop it over with plenty of tea & smoke breaks whilst doing it.

I think the mechanic who's changing the cambelt might have said something about ordering a cam kit for it thinking about it. I will have to give him a ring and ask if he changes the lifters as well.
Thanks.
